Overview
Four horses on Monday’s Hamilton card won at their most recent start, and three of them meet in the same race. Ramelle, Becauseyou’re Mine and The Birthday Party all line up in the Michael Stewart Memorial (Bm56) at 4:00PM, and how that race unfolds is the hinge of these Hamilton racing tips.
The card is eight races on a Good to Soft turf track: four maidens to open, then four races for horses rated around 56, the Michael Stewart Memorial among them. Bookmakers had markets up for the first three races when this was written and the back five were still unpriced, so odds appear only where a real price existed. L J Meech has the best riding record at the track, Symon Wilde sends six runners and places with well over half of the stable’s Hamilton starters, and Andrew Bobbin wins at a rate few others here can match. Read on for a view on every race, the quaddie anchor and where the money goes.
Hamilton: the setup
Course form among the horses is thin. Ask For More is the only runner on the card with three Hamilton starts, and most of the others have one run here or none, so the weight of this preview sits on recent form, connections and how each race should be run. The going is Good to Soft, which tends to favour honest, on-pace types over backmarkers who need a firm surface to sprint.
The riders and trainers are where the useful numbers live.
Jockeys with five or more Hamilton rides
| Jockey | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Teodore Nugent | 7 | 2 | 5 | 28.6 | 71.4 |
| D M Parker | 7 | 1 | 5 | 14.3 | 71.4 |
| Jack Hill | 15 | 4 | 8 | 26.7 | 53.3 |
| L J Meech | 19 | 6 | 9 | 31.6 | 47.4 |
| Neil Farley | 16 | 1 | 7 | 6.3 | 43.8 |
| E J Walsh | 5 | 2 | 2 | 40.0 | 40.0 |
| D Yendall | 16 | 2 | 6 | 12.5 | 37.5 |
| Tom Madden | 19 | 0 | 7 | 0.0 | 36.8 |
| Cian Macredmond | 12 | 2 | 4 | 16.7 | 33.3 |
Trainers with five or more Hamilton runners
| Trainer | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jamie Edwards | 5 | 3 | 5 | 60.0 | 100.0 |
| Symon Wilde | 17 | 2 | 10 | 11.8 | 58.8 |
| Andrew Bobbin | 14 | 4 | 7 | 28.6 | 50.0 |
| C Maher | 8 | 3 | 4 | 37.5 | 50.0 |
| M J Williams | 6 | 1 | 3 | 16.7 | 50.0 |
| P A Chow | 6 | 0 | 3 | 0.0 | 50.0 |
| Tom Dabernig | 11 | 3 | 5 | 27.3 | 45.5 |
| L Smith | 8 | 2 | 3 | 25.0 | 37.5 |
Two things stand out. Meech wins nearly a third of her rides here, the best strike rate of anyone with real volume. And Tom Madden has ridden 19 times at Hamilton without a winner despite hitting the frame on seven of them, which is worth remembering when Madden’s mounts start short.

Hamilton race-by-race
Race 1: Bet365 Bet Boost Mdn Plate, 1:30PM, 1100m
King Koruna is the one they have to beat, and the market agrees: $2.05 with Neds makes King Koruna a clear favourite. The case rests more on the stable than the horse. C Maher has won with three of eight Hamilton runners and placed with half of them, and this three-year-old was third two starts back before a fifth last time. One placing from three runs in the last 90 days is hardly a horse banging the door down.
Wanted Enuff, from the Taige Weir stable that has placed with three of its four Hamilton runners, is the danger at $4.40 with Bet Right after only three career starts. For a bigger price, Calm The Press gets L J Meech, and at $13 with Ladbrokes that booking alone earns a saver.
Small win on King Koruna, saver on Calm The Press. At $2.05, nobody should be loading up.
Race 2: Sinclair Wilson Mdn Plate, 2:00PM, 1400m
Does Rentier deserve to be a $2.50 favourite? Rentier has run third, third and fourth in three career starts, two of those placings coming in the last 90 days, and D Yendall rides for an L Smith stable that wins a quarter of the time here. That is a solid maiden profile. It is not a $2.50 profile.
Never Pegasus has done more. Six runs in the last 90 days have produced four placings, including a second last start, and the S & J Jaensch runner gets L J Meech, the leading rider at the course. At $4.20 with Unibet, the market is paying you to take the more consistent horse with the better jockey. The obvious knock is that six runs without a win can easily become seven.
Piklemegranmother is the other one to respect. Piklemegranmother ran second at its only Hamilton start and has placed twice from three runs in the last 90 days, and $7 with Unibet keeps it in the calculations.
Win and place on Never Pegasus. Piklemegranmother into the exotics.
Race 3: Mark Kirchner Food Services Mdn Plate, 2:30PM, 2200m
Jack Hill and Symon Wilde have teamed up 48 times, for nine wins and 19 placings, and their most recent win together came on 17 October. All Moonlite is their runner in the staying maiden, and the horse arrives off a second at its latest start. A six-year-old maiden has had chances, but 2200m on a soft-leaning track rewards horses that keep going, and All Moonlite has that profile. $4.20 with Bet Right.
The market can’t split the top end. Gradivus at $4.60 with Bet Right comes from the Andrew Bobbin stable, which has won with four of its 14 Hamilton runners, although the horse finished down the track last start and the card had no rider listed for it when this was written. Mossquillo, at $4.80 with Unibet for C Maher, has had only two starts and was fifth last time. Jakbe Nimble ran second last start too, and at $8.50 with Bet Right is the each-way alternative.
Win bet on All Moonlite, Jakbe Nimble the saver.
Race 4: Hamilton Flooring Xtra Mdn Plate, 3:00PM, 1600m
Two placings from two runs in the last 90 days put Normandy Peace at the head of a moderate maiden. The Aaron Purcell three-year-old has finished third at each of the last two starts, and Tom Madden knows the track even without a Hamilton winner yet. The problem is barrier 18, and from there Normandy Peace will need luck or a strong tempo to get across.
I’mnodrummerboy jumps from gate one and ran second on its only Hamilton visit, and has placed once from two starts in the last 90 days and should get the perfect run behind the leaders, which makes I’mnodrummerboy the danger. Chancellor, from Archie Alexander, has had only two starts and will improve.
No market was up for this race at the time of writing. Each-way on Normandy Peace, with I’mnodrummerboy in the quinella.
Race 5: South West Equine Hcp (56), 3:30PM, 1600m
The quaddie opens with a race that should be won by the most consistent horse in it. Tudaya has run four times in the last 90 days and finished in the first three on three of those, including a second last start. P A Chow has placed with half of six Hamilton runners, and Melissa Julius has more rides here than anyone on the card. Gate 16 is a long way out, but in a mile handicap there is time to find cover.
Sotomayor is the course form runner, second at its only Hamilton start, though seventh last time leaves a question mark. Miss Trombari has placed twice from five runs in the last 90 days and was fourth last start, and is the one most likely to be finishing over the top if the pace is on. Knock Of Beers and A Blue Star are scratched.
Unpriced at the time of writing. Each-way on Tudaya, Miss Trombari the danger.
Race 6: Michael Stewart Memorial (Bm56), 4:00PM, 1200m
Three last-start winners in a twelve-horse sprint, and the best of them is Ramelle. The Symon Wilde four-year-old won its only start in the last 90 days and steps out for a trainer who has placed with ten of 17 Hamilton runners. Jett Stanley takes the ride from barrier nine. Wilde’s runners rarely run a poor race at this track, and Ramelle comes here in the best form of anything in the stable’s team.
Becauseyou’re Mine is the one to worry about. Shane Jackson‘s runner won last start and has finished in the first three twice from three runs in the last 90 days, so that form matches up. The catch, again, is Tom Madden‘s blank at the track. The Birthday Party, from the L & T Corstens & W Larkin stable, is the third last-start winner and draws the rail, so will be right there. Nicaloha has won once from four runs in that window and was fourth last time.
Ramelle is the best bet on the card. Back Ramelle to win, with a saver quinella to Becauseyou’re Mine. The market had not opened for this race at the time of writing.
Race 7: Wannon Pastoral Hcp (56), 4:30PM, 1100m
Alpinova has been knocking on the door. Seven runs in the last 90 days have produced three placings, the latest a second, and Melea Castle rides for Brooke Verwey-Mitchell. Barrier 13 probably means settling back, but a short sprint on a Good to Soft track usually gets strung out enough for that type to find a way through.
Imminent Storm has placed twice from three runs in that window and ran fifth at its only Hamilton start, and Jett Stanley should be handy. News Travels Fast won three starts back for D C Cunningham and gets E J Walsh, who has won two of five rides here, but finished eighth last time. Popthebubbly ran third at its only Hamilton start, though one placing from four recent runs is modest.
Each-way on Alpinova. The race is open enough that the place bet is the safer half.
Race 8: Ace Radio Hcp (56), 5:00PM, 1400m
Hidden Witness grinds; Hellish Lee wins. That is the contrast in the last, and the tempo decides it. Hidden Witness has finished in the first three in all four runs over the last 90 days, a run of seconds and thirds that make it the most reliable placegetter on the card. Neil Farley has hit the frame on seven of 16 Hamilton rides.
Hellish Lee won its only start in the last 90 days and comes from the Andrew Bobbin stable, which wins with more than a quarter of its runners at Hamilton. D Yendall rides from gate eight. If this is run at a true pace, Hellish Lee has the turn of foot to beat Hidden Witness. If it crawls, the consistent horse lands in the money again. Steely Hustler, second last start, gives Jamie Edwards a runner, and three wins from five Hamilton starters make that worth a small saver. Sweet But Sassy is scratched.
Unpriced at the time of writing. Win bet on Hellish Lee, with Hidden Witness the place banker.

Where the money goes
NAP: Ramelle (Race 6, 4:00PM). A last-start winner for a trainer who places with most of the runners sent to Hamilton. Ramelle has the freshest winning form in a race full of it.
Value: Never Pegasus (Race 2, 2:00PM). $4.20 with Unibet for a horse that has placed in four of six recent runs and gets the track’s leading rider, against a $2.50 favourite with a thinner record.
Banker: Hidden Witness (Race 8, 5:00PM). Four runs, four placings in the last 90 days. Use it in place multis rather than as a win single.
Each-way: Tudaya (Race 5, 3:30PM). Three placings from four recent runs and a stable that hits the frame with half its runners here.
Course angle: Symon Wilde. Six runners on the card and ten placings from 17 Hamilton starters. When Jack Hill rides one, the pair has a win and placing record worth following.
If Ramelle goes back to back on Monday, Wilde’s Hamilton numbers will start to look like a habit rather than a hot streak.
