GEORGE RYDER STAKES BETTING SNAPSHOT

Anamoe is the dominant favourite with Palmerbet for the George Ryder Stakes and has been posted at the $1.60 quote, while the last start Canterbury Stakes (1300m) winner, Artorius, is at $7. Fangirl is the only other runner under double figures and is at $9.50. 

There are 11 runners in action and the stablemate of Anamoe, Golden Mile, is at $12 ahead of Electric Girl at $19. Osipenko ($19) and the last start Randwick Guineas (1600m) winner, Communist, heads the rest at $21. 

GEORGE RYDER STAKES FORM ANALYSIS

Anamoe has won six of his past seven races. Those wins have all been at Group 1 level and his only miss came at the end of his last preparation when 4th in the Champions Stakes (2000m) at Flemington. 

He has been racing as well as ever and comes in with the best last start benchmark figures of any runner, going 10.2 lengths faster than standard benchmark when taking out the Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Randwick. 

Third up last time, the four-year-old improved three lengths on figures to claim the Caulfield Stakes (2000m) before his Cox Plate (2040m) triumph. Fangirl has placed behind Anamoe at her past two starts and is a solid place chance yet again. 

Five runners come out of the Canterbury Stakes (1300m). Artorius rattled home in dazzling fashion in that race with Zac Purton on board to get up in the shadows, going a healthy 9.3 lengths faster than standard benchmark. He finished ahead of Anamoe in the Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) as a two-year-old but has not finished ahead of that galloper in three starts since then. 

Electric Girl (3rd), Golden Mile (4th), Kirwan’s Lane (6th) and Converge (7th) are the others to come out of the Canterbury Stakes. Electric Girl led and stuck on well. Golden Mile was strong and comes into this third up, while the 1500m should suit. 

He is one of three horses aged three in the race. They are all likely to need to produce a big personal best to match Anamoe. Communist went 4.7 lengths faster than standard to take out the Randwick Guineas, while Osipenko comes off a last start win in the Hobartville Stakes (1400m), going 4.5 lengths faster than standard. 

Levante creates a bit of interest and comes over from New Zealand. She was a last start winner at Group 1 level ahead of La Crique and has been solid behind Roch’N’Horse in her two runs in Australia, which have been over the 1200m down the Flemington straight. 

GEORGE RYDER STAKES TIPS AND BEST BETS

Anamoe wins. The champion is at a perfect stage of his current preparation and I do believe his best distance range is over the 1400m-1600m. The only slight danger is Artorius, who jumped out of his skin to claim the Canterbury Stakes. But Anamoe does have a good record over that galloper and the 1500m should suit better. I will be anchoring Anamoe in multi’s through the day and willing to take the odds-on.
