Caulfield Tips 11/05/2024

BEST BET 🏆

Race 1 No. 1 STANLEY EXPRESS – ($2.70)

Nice debut by STANLEY EXPRESS at Caulfield on April 27 and keen to stick with the Clinton McDonald galloper in the opener. He settled last after drawing barrier 11 on debut and rattled home in the closing stages of the race to score from Symphony Of Colour, landing a bit of a plunge in the process. The son of Starspangledbanner went 3.4 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is a better figure than what any horse in this race has produced. There are some unknowns with four debutants in this race but they might need to be smart to catch him.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 3 No. 4 OUR RED MORNING- ($5)

OUR RED MORNING can be an improver in Race 3. The four-year-old has had just the one run this preparation for a 7th at Mornington over the 1200m on April 20. She settled last of the 12 runners and her cause wasn’t helped by the lack of the pace in the race. The daughter of Redwood produced the fastest last 400m and 200m to land two lengths away. Second up at her last preparation, she was a 15 length improver on benchmark figures when going from a 9th at Echuca to a win at Mornington before scoring over the 1400m at Caulfield and then again at Sandown over the 1300m. She might settle a little closer this time around from the inside barrier and if the breaks come at the right time, she can deliver the goods.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 8 No.2 KING MAGNUS- ($8.50)

KING MAGNUS ticks a few boxes in Race 8 of the day at Caulfield. The veteran galloper returned for another preparation recently at Caulfield over the 1400m and settled handy but just lacked the dash at the business end when 3rd behind Edison. He meets that horse 2.5kg better at the weights and has a great second up record. This time last year he won in slick time at Flemington over the 1400m when second up, improving off a 5th at Sandown and in the spring, the Robbie Griffiths & Matt de Kock-trained galloper took out the Group 3 Heffernan Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield when second up off a 10-week break. He will provide a very honest contest with the 3kg claimer, Ryan Houston, on board. He has had some recent success for the stable.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 10 No. 8 SEMILLION- ($10)

Willing to roll the dice on SEMILLION in the final race of the day. The Team Hawkes-trained galloper did all the work early on at his most recent start when scooting across to lead, only to be run down late by Who Dares in the VOBIS Gold Sprint at the track and trip. He ran quick time that day and should be right at his peak at his fourth run this time in. The son of Shalaa draws wide but has the speed to cross over and I expect to see him fight out the finish.
