BEST BET 🏆
Race 3 No. 1 RISING SPHERE – ($2.45)
We were keen on RISING SPHERE when racing first-up here for new trainer Gary Clarke at a reasonable price. Unfortunately he was slow to begin and then struggled to find his feet for the first time racing on dirt. Since came out on Wednesday and jumped brilliantly from the machines. He continued to build under Jarrod Todd over this 1100 metre distance and the further they went, the further ahead he got. Rising Sphere trounced his midweek rivals in the benchmark 66 and we take it to be a good sign that the Clarke team are backing up again.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 1 No. 4 EL MAGNIFICENCE – ($9)
EL MAGNIFICENCE can bounce back to form with a win in the first. There looks to be no early pressure on paper and Wayne Davis can control the race from the onset. El Magnificence put a couple of very good wins together beginning with a victory over 1100m here of Ideas Man. Followed up by trouncing his rivals over this track and trip and against similar company. Hasn’t had it all his own way since and he can turn the tables on a couple of these over the six-furlong distance.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 10 No. 6 GONE BYE – ($13)
Local trainer Emma Steele has the former Mark Newnham horse Gone Bye. He’s only fairly lightly raced for a six-year-old and already boasts a handy winning strike rate. Had a bit of a look around the track when racing first-up over the mile. He wasn’t really away all that well and never seemed to travel into the run. Love that Steele has sent him around again while some of his more fancied opponents have remained in their boxes. He was slow to find his feet again in the Buntine Handicap, a traditional Darwin Cup lead up race. Adam Nicholls remained hard at work on the gelding with the pair eventually finding the front. Gone Bye seemed to grow in confidence with every stride as he put paid to his rivals over this Cup distance. He’ll need to be away better in this, and we’ll be looking for Gone Bye to run them them along.
