Darwin Tips 23/07/2022

BEST BET 🏆

Race 4 No. 7 ROYAL TYKE – ($5.50)

We liked the way the race set up for ROYAL TYKE last time, and it probably sets up similarly here again. We did end up leaving him out of our three daily selections – only just, and he need had us eating our hat! Peeled off the fence after following the speed battle that went on in front to go up and tackle Ideas Man. Royale Tyke looked all over the winner, however Ideas Man became a doer. He’s pulled at plenty to deny Kym Hann’s charge in an impressive victory. Loved the gap back to the rest, and one thing we noted was that Royal Tyke tends to improve with each run into his prep.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 5 No. 3 RISING SPHERE – ($8)

This is the last time we’ll mention the name RISING SPHERE if he doesn’t produce just some of his ability here. Did mention in the write-up prior to his first-up run that this horse has been a bit of a thorn in our side. We do expect the former Stokes trained Victorian to race well in Darwin owing to his liking of fast tracks. He can turn it up at times though, as he did when checked at the start here last time. Rising Sphere did not play any part in the race after that and so it’s unsurprising that Jarrod Todd has jumped off. We’ll give the horse one more go while there’s a price and Adam Nicholls will know that he’s on something with ability if things do go his way.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 2 No. 7 STARLITE REBEL – ($41)

The three-year-old’s race with plenty of pressure up top which could suit an improving STARLITE REBEL. Trainer Kym Healy has been tinkering with her gear and we now see concussion plates going on which may indicate some soreness through her last run. Doubt Brad Rawiller will hand up the lead off an inside draw with Broome galloper Isola Bay. First Crusade posted impressive time over 1100m when leading comfortably as Super Famous couldn’t hold him out. Jade Hampson had been watching the speed battle while trying to find a rhythm with Starlite Rebel. Her mount was doing her best work late and can figure in the numbers again should the extra pressure eventuate in this race.
