BEST BET 🏆

Race 5 No. 4 OCEAN TREATY – ($5.50)

Ben Thompson has a tricky ride coming up from the wide gate on OCEAN TREATY. This is one of those days where everything we want to follow has been drawn out on a track that typically favours the opposite. Jayden Lloyd found a lovely run with cover for Ocean Treaty when racing here first-up. Just became held-up momentarily into the straight which may have cost the mare a win over the 1350 metres. Wham finished too powerfully with Ocean Treaty digging deep again to hold her out. Thompson guided her home as a second-up winner over this track and trip when last in work and we want to follow her this prep.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 2 No. 3 TOP ORDER – ($11)

Taylor Marshall got into TOP ORDER with good intent from the inside draw early in the Group 3 Tatts Cup at Eagle Farm two runs back. He was keen to hold some sort of a spot in the stronger field so as not to give away too big a start. Top Order ran okay considering the class and wasn’t beaten too far from the winner. Marshall gave him a treat by hunting the fence from near last over the 2200 metres at Eagle Farm last time out and the pair made headway into the straight. Top Order now comes back to the 2000 metres in a race where there should be some pace. Doesn’t possess an electric turn of foot so we’ll look for Marshall to make an early race move with Top Order grinding the race out.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 9 No. 16 NEED NEW FRIENDS – ($20)

We were on NEED NEW FRIENDS as she went around for the first time under the Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted flagship. Has been a while since this mare has won and she’s probably just looking for something a little easier than Melbourne Metro grade. Tends to jump and put herself into her races while running good time against quality horses. She was okay in a recent trial at Deagon as Jayden Lloyd sat quietly on her. Not certain she handled the heavy conditions last time out and we’ll be hoping Boris Thornton can find some cover from that outside middle draw.
