Doomben Tips 23/07/2022

BEST BET 🏆

Race 2 No. 3 BARADE – ($4)

Trainer Jack Bruce can make it back-to-back wins with BARADE following his midweek score here last start. Jim Byrne let him relax back in the field early with the pace okay up in front. Today’s rival Fast Talking had hit the front inside the 300 metres after racing in the box-seat throughout over the 2030 metre journey. Byrne had him in his sights though, and he’s raced Barade past him inside the 100m. The inside horse did put up a short battle, however had appeared to have peaked on his run. Extra trip looks to be in the favor of Barade, and we liked the gaps these two left back through the rest of the field.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 4 No. 7 NEED NEW FRIENDS – ($7.50)

The powerful Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted stable have picked up former Victorian

NEED NEW FRIENDS from the Danny O’Brien yard. Has been a while since this mare has won and she’s probably just looking for something a little easier than Melbourne Metro grade. Tends to jump and put herself into her races while running good time against quality horses. She was okay in a recent trial at Deagon as Jayden Lloyd sat quietly on her. Stable senior Ben Thompson goes on to guide her around Doomben for her first go there. Should find a nice run in transit and can be there in the finish.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 6 No. 11 OCEAN TREATY- ($8.50)

Eagle Farm trainers Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted may have counted themselves unlucky not to have had a winner first-up in OCEAN TREATY. Apprentice Jayden Lloyd found a midfield position with him early over the 1350 metres here. The pair cruised into the race between horses early. They loomed ominously shortly after straightening only to have the winner lay-in on top of him as the inside horse shifted out. This hold up of momentum cost Ocean Treaty dearly as he drove strongly to the line. Margin was slim in the tight finish and Ocean Treaty had all the momentum. He’s a winner here and second-up, would enjoy any upgrade from the Heavy and welcomes senior rider Ben Thompson aboard.
