Flemington Tips 01/01/2024
BEST BET 🏆
Race 1 No. 1 MIDTOWN BOSS- ($2.75)
MIDTOWN BOSS can the new year off to a flyer for us. The Matt Laurie-trained galloper resumes but enjoys a bit of a class edge on this lot and has performed well down the straight in the past. He ran 3rd here when first up back in May, going a healthy nine lengths faster than standard benchmark over the 1200m before going more than 11 lengths faster than standard benchmark when runner-up behind Legio Ten over the 1100m. He was luckless in that race. The four-year-old comes in with the ultimate gear change, having been gelded since then.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 2 No. 3 GINGER ’N’ PINK – ($3.40)
Nice work by GINGER ’N’ PINK to score over the 1200m at Caulfield on December 16 and the Moody/Coleman galloper can make it three wins from as many starts at her current preparation. She settled just worse than midfield on what was a slow tempo before running on strongly in the straight to swallow them up. The daughter of Zoustar produced the fastest last 200m and gives the impression the rise to the 1400m should suit. Tatum Bull rides and claims the 3kg.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 6 No. 6 RULING- ($6)
Going with RULING in the Bagot Handicap. The Maher/Eustace import has had two runs since coming to Australia and showed improvement at the most recent of those when winning at Caulfield over the 2400m. The lightly raced six-year-old liked the step up to the trip that day and overcame trouble from to arrive in the shadows of the post. The son of Camelot rises in grade but looks up to the task, having gone eight lengths faster than standard benchmark last time, which is the best last start figure of any runner. Jamie Kah rides and the pair draw barrier 6.
