BEST BET 🏆 (WIN)  

Race 1 No. 1 SCHEELITE- ($3.90)

Looking to get the day off to a flyer and SCHEELITE should be hard to beat in the opener. A few unknowns with some first starters in the mix here but I liked what I saw from the Ken & Kasey Keys-trained galloper on debut at Sandown on April 29. He stepped out over the 1000m and settled last in the field of five before running on strongly to get up on the line from Prizerro. Those two put a four length gap on the rest and the winner produced some slick late splits. He should improve off that effort, while the 1100m should only suit. 

NEXT BEST 🥈 (WIN) 

Race 5 No 1 RUSSIAN DANCER – ($8.10)

RUSSIAN DANCER has been up for a while but has been improving with racing and is well worth a crack in Race 5. The Phillip Stokes-trained galloper has won three of his past four and was strong to the line in the $500,000 VOBIS Sires Guineas (1600m) at Sandown on April 15, winning ahead of Toronto Terrier. The son of Impending went 4.9 lengths faster than standard that day and has now won four and finished runner-up in two out of six starts over the mile. A slight firmer in the early betting, he might just have another win in store.

Race 3 No.1 GOOD AND PROPER- ($11.20)

GOOD AND PROPER looks over the odds in Race 3 at Flemington. The Matthew Ellerton-trained mare was a strong winner in the $200,000 VOBIS Gold Distaff (1400m) at her last start. She settled worse than midfield and produced the fastest last 600m to nail Megamea right on the line, while there was a bit of a gap back to Belle Savoir. The wide barrier is a slight query, but she should have improvement to come third up and I did like the way she closed off last time. Laura Lafferty rides and claims the 3kg.
