Race 7 No. 5 THEBIGSOSSO ($3.80)

Oakbank trainer Ali Brook will have THEBIGSOSSO fitter and ready to win fourth-up at Gawler Racecourse on Thursday. The horse was beaten by a handy one in Gusty Way when racing on the speed on resumption. Beaten for speed and didn’t finish all that far off another handy galloper in Storyteller over 1000m on the Parks track. Went oh-so-close after missing the kick at home last start. Utah Joe managed to cling on in a photo to deny Thebigsosso who was closing out late.

Race 6 No. 1 FOURTH POWER ($4.80)

We marked FOURTH POWER as a horse of interest following two dominant on-speed wins at Clare. Justin Pickering chose to take the scenic route to the provincials with his new stable acquisition following an impressive jump out win. Fourth Power rolled forward in a handy BM56 before coming away from his opposition first-up over 1200m. Rider Tala Hutchinson lost an iron as Fourth Power stepped sideways out of the machine’s second-up. The horse still had the pace to burn them off as Hutchinson somehow managed to regain her positioning in the saddle. The pair went on to score again, this time at BM58 level. Looks well suited here from a middle alley.

Race 8 No. 9 BOLTED IN ($8)

The three-year-olds didn’t go out hard in the Benchmark 62 at Oakbank which left those out the back at a distinct disadvantage. We covered our reasons for liking the winner Apache Gunship during the preview, and we believe that horse can continue onto bigger and better things. BOLTED IN has come back in the handicap ratings after capturing two wins by racing handy to the speed during his two-year-old campaign. He has been around the mark since and showed a good turn of foot to get home into third behind Apache Gunship. This field ran their last 600m around two lengths quicker than the BM84 won by Second To Nun, while also getting home six lengths faster than the race won by Alpine Eagle. Gets back to provincial grade after not having the race run to suit when much the same throughout behind A Samurai Mind.
