Race 3 No. 12 NANAGUI – ($1.95)

This looks to be a suitable assignment for NANAGUI to kick off her preparation. The Peter Moody-trained galloper had three starts in the autumn, finishing runner-up at each start. She debuted in the Group 3 Chairmans Stakes for the two-year-olds and was a tad luckless when landing a length off Sebonack before just missing out in the Thoroughbred Breeders (1200m) at Flemington. She was then caught wide at Moonee Valley at Listed level over the 1200m before the break. That form looks good for this. Figures from two of those three runs are better than what any horse has produced and she gets the ride from Jamie Kah.

Race 6 No. 4 CARBONETTI- ($4.20)

Liked the improvement shown by CARBONETTI at Sandown on July 6 and suspect that the three-year-old has more to offer at his third run in Australia. The former import did nothing at Cranbourne when resuming on a Heavy 9 but ran on well in this grade for 3rd behind Danaustar over the 1400m. He gets out to the 1700m now and has the fitness in the tank. As long as we don’t get into the Heavy range with the morning showers forecast, he can just about take this one out.
