Gilgandra Tips for Sunday, January 7
Our form expert provides Gilgandra tips for today’s horse racing at Gilgandra Racecourse and gives his best bets.
BEST BET 🏆
Race 7: No.7 NOT TOO BAD ($3.70 with Ladbrokes)
The locally-trained NOT TOO BAD has been in top-shelf form at his past four starts and looks well placed here to collect his local Cup trophy today. Last start, the Pride Of Dubai gelding came off a good win at Narromine over the mile when he stepped-up to the 1800m at Bathurst and did well to finish third (beaten a length) after overracing to the turn. Clay Gallagher was aboard for both of those races and sticks with him today, boasting six rides to date for four wins and two minor placings. The four-year-old comes back to the mile today where he is already a four-time winner. From gate four, he is expected to settle just behind the pace and be there when it matters most. He is on fire of late and looks set to give this a real shake today.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 3: No.3 FOXY BARONESS ($4.85 with BoomBet)
The Dubbo-based FOXY BARONESS sees the Gilgandra track for the first time today and in career-best form this time in, looks a solid chance of making her track debut a winning one. Last start, the Foxwedge mare blew like the wind in betting ($7 – $14) but still had too many guns for a BM66 field over 1800m at Bathurst. Today she meets Class 3 company over the same trip and after the claim, carries less weight than last start. She is already a winner over the trip and given the breaks here, she can figure today.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 6: No.5 BENYATTA ($13.20 with BoomBet)
Connie Greig saddles-up BENYATTA here who is making her Gilgandra debut as well and looks well placed for back-to-back victories today. Last start, the Headwater mare bounced back to frank her first-up effort when she finished late to grab victory near the line in a BM58 over 1100m at Bathurst. She meets similar company here but gets the gun-run from gate one today. Mitch Stapleford has the reins and after his claim, the mare carries less weight here. She maps to settle near mid-field and if she can find clean air in the run home, she should prove hard to hold out in this contest. Certainly well worth an each-way ticket today.
