BEST BET 🏆

Race 8:  No. 3  REGAL EDITION  ($3.30 Neds)

The Kelly Schweida-trained REGAL EDITION boasts seven podium finishes from ten career starts and looks poised for a bold showing here today. Last start, the Rubick gelding embarrassed his opposition in a BM58, here over 1400m. Putting almost four lengths on them over the line, he ran his last 600m, 2.3 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best here by 3 lengths. He also recorded the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. Angela Jones sticks with him today and he is ideally drawn in gate four, mapping to settle just behind the pace. He steps up in class today, but already a winner here and dropping 4kgs, he can get the job done again and go back-to-back.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 4:  No. 1  CONTRERAS  ($5 Palmerbet)

Local galloper CONTRERAS has shone brightly at his past couple and looks set for the hat-trick today. Last start, he made it back-to-back wins when he arrived in time to grab victory in a Class 1 Hcp over 1800m at the Sunshine Coast. He ran his last 600m, 1.7 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field. He also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. He does no early work today from gate two and will settle in the back half of the field. A winner here two starts back (by more than four lengths that day), he will take beating here.

BEST VALUE 💰  (Each-Way)

Race 3:  No. 7  IRING  ($8 Ladbrokes)

The locally-trained IRING is in great touch since resuming this time in and looks well placed here to make a showing in this company. Last start, the Choisir gelding finished third in a Class 2 Plate over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast with Sean Cormack aboard. He ran that out, 4.7 lengths slower than benchmark, setting a new personal best and second-best here behind Your Too Good (who is second-up today and sporting major gear changes). Up in class here, he is ideally drawn in gate two and maps to settle in the first half-dozen. With three starts under his belt this preparation and dropping 3kgs today, he looks a solid each-way chance here.
