BEST BET 🏆

Race 7:  No.16  SEMILLION

Team Hawkes saddle-up SEMILLION here who has improved at each start this preparation and looks ready to strike here. Last start, the Shalaa gelding put in a big effort when he beat all but one home in the Yulong Vobis Gold Sprint at set weights over 1200m at Caulfield. Carrying 57kgs that day, he was beaten less than a length as they ran 1:09.6 for the trip. He drops 4kgs for this contest as Zac Lloyd takes the reins for the first time. Ideally drawn in gate two, he should be sitting better than mid-field and already placed twice from two starts in Listed company, he has to be considered in this event.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 5:  No.4  NANA’S WISH

The Ciaron Maher-trained NANA’S WISH is in great touch this time in and looks a serious player in this contest. Last start, the Belardo mare brought up her ninth podium finish (from 15 starts) when she claimed third prize in a BM78 over 1500m at Rosehill. She settled just behind the speed that day and never gave up chasing, beaten less than half a length on the line. She is in good form this time in and won her only start (in NZ) on heavy going so conditions here should suit. Dylan Gibbons retains the ride and already boasting two previous wins over the mile trip, the four-year-old can figure here.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 4:  No.14  NAVAL COMMISSION

Another from the Ciaron Maher stable is NAVAL COMMISSION who is third-up here and should be fit enough now to lodge a serious challenge for victory in this contest. Last start, the Merchant Navy gelding Went one better than his first-up effort when he beat home a BM66 field over 1700m at Scone. He drew wide (11 of 13) and carried 59kgs but still proved too strong in the end. Zac Lloyd is the new pilot here and unbeaten in two starts on heavy tracks, conditions here look ideal for him. Dropping 6.5kgs from his last start, he should take beating here at very generous odds.
