BEST BET 🏆

Race 3:  No.5  MASTER JOE  ($1.60 with Ladbrokes)

Locally-trained by Scott Collings, MASTER JOE brings an attractive resume with him here and looks the pick of the crop today. Last start, the Unencumbered gelding resumed off a 13-week break when he clobbered them in a Class 1 Hcp, here over the 900m sprint. On a Heavy 8 that day, he put 2.5 lengths on them, running his last 600m 6.5 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best last-start effort here by 5 lengths. He also ran the fastest final 600m and 400m sectionals. Nick Heywood was aboard that day and has the reins again here. His five starts on this track have resulted in two wins as many runner-up finishes and fitter for that first-up win, he will take a ton of beating here. He is skinny with the books but still better than bank interest.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 1:  No.3  SHEZANALISTER  ($3.85 with BoomBet)

The Bjorn Baker-trained SHEZANALISTER is second-up here and seeing Goulburn track for the first time, looks on target for the hat-trick today. Last start, the Star Turn filly resumed off a lengthy 22-week break when she did it the hard way but still managed to score in a BM58 Hcp over 1000m on a Heavy 9 at Queanbeyan. She was last out of the gates and settled back near the tail, caught three-deep as well. On straightening, she showed a great turn of foot and reeled them in and arrived in time to grab the major prize. She steps-up in grade today but has the runs on the board to suggest she will be competitive even at this level. Ideally drawn in gate three, she maps to settle behind the speed with cover this time. Mitchell Bell has his first ride on the filly today and with a trouble-free run, she should prove hard to beat.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 6:  No.3  CHARLEMAGNE  ($7 with bet365)

Local galloper CHARLEMAGNE has found his mojo this time in and looks well placed here for back-to-back victories today. Last start, the Real Impact gelding gave them a galloping lesson by winning a BM66 Hcp, here over 1300m. Slowly away, he settled back in the field but on a Heavy 8 that day, finished over the top of them to score by more than two lengths on the line. He ran the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race and covered the trip, 2 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best in this line-up. Drawn well in gate four today, he is already a two-time winner at the track and looks a genuine winning chance at odds here.
