BEST BET  🏆

Race 4:  No. 5  GOLDEN GATE  ($2.70  Neds)

The Rosehill-trained GOLDEN GATE is off to a great start with her racing career and looks the one to beat again today. Last start, the Nicconi filly made her racing debut in a 1200m Maiden on a Heavy 10 at Newcastle where she put three lengths on them over the line with Andrew Adkins in the saddle. She ran her last 600m, 1.1 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best here by more than 3 lengths. She also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the contest. Today, Adkins sticks with her and well drawn in gate five, maps to be up near the speed on settling. A big win in heavy going last start points to a similar effort here.

NEXT BEST  🥈

Race 6:  No. 2  DON LUIGI  ($2.80  Palmerbet

Kembla Grange galloper DON LUIGI is a track specialist here and with conditions to suit, looks the pick of the crop in this contest. Last start, the Nicconi gelding settled too far back to cause any damage in a strong Midway Hcp over 1100m at Randwick. He still managed to run his last 600m, 7.4 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field by 6 lengths. Dropping sharply in class today, he is a two-time winner at the track and distance and all four career wins have come on heavy tracks. With Winona Costin back on board (after enjoying previous success with him) and all other boxes ticked, he looks the goods today.

NEXT BEST  🥈

Race 7:  No. 2  FLOWER MOON  ($2.60  bet365)

The Maher & Eustace-trained FLOWER MOON is unbeaten on this track and her resume suggests there is every chance that could remain unchanged today. Last start, the Shalaa filly faced her toughest test to date when she took on city class company for the first time and wasn’t disgraced, finishing third in a BM64 Hcp over 1300m at Warwick Farm. She ran the trip, 2.7 lengths slower than benchmark, the best in this line-up. Drawn the fence today, Jason Collett sticks with her and boasting an unbeaten record on heavy tracks as well, she looks the one we should turn to when making an investment in this contest. Scratched from Canterbury yesterday, she looks right at home here.
