BEST BET 🏆
Race 3: No. 6 SAHANA ($4 Unibet)
The Brett Cavanough-trained SAHANA is second-up today and sporting a gear change, looks the one to beat in this company. Last start, the I Am Invincible filly came off a lengthy five-month absence and on fresh legs, broke through for her maiden win over 900m at Scone. Carrying 57.5kgs and Mikayla Weir, she settled outside the leader, then took over inside the final 200m and held on for a game win. She gets the gun-run from gate one today as the stable fit the tongue tie for the first time. Weir has the reins again and on debut at this track today, she looks a sound investment.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 6: No. 4 FIELD REGIMENT ($4.80 Palmerbet)
Stephen Lee saddles-up FIELD REGIMENT here and based on his roller-coaster form this preparation, he is due for another win today. Last start, the All Too Hard gelding found the class rise and the 1600m at Eagle Farm too testing as he led to the 300m mark, then weakened out of it, finishing near the tail of the field. Despite that, he ran the trip out, 3.2 lengths slower than benchmark, the best in this field. He returns to country racing today and has Justin Huxtable back aboard who is two from two with the four-year-old. He finished runner-up at his only start at the track and boasts two podium finishes on heavy tracks to date. He looks a genuine winning chance here.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 7: No. 11 SOLAR APEX ($8 Palmerbet)
Chris Waller saddles-up a trio of runners here and SOLAR APEX catches my eye as a genuine chance to beat home his stablemate and race favourite Wicklow today. After winning first-up this preparation, the Deep Impact gelding has been thereabouts in his three starts since. Last start, he fought on strongly to take home third prize in a BM88 Hcp over 1800m at Randwick. He ran that out, 10.8 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up. Drawn the fence today, he gets the gun-run and maps to settle in the first half-dozen with cover. Ben Looker has his first ride on the four-year-old and boasts a 33% strike rate for the stable. The gelding has an impeccable record at the 1600m trip, boasting four wins and a minor placing from his six starts over the distance and at peak fitness today, looks a solid each-way chance in the cup.
