BEST BET 🏆
Race 1: No. 6 STAR MAGNUM ($4.40 Palmerbet)
Matt Dunn saddles-up Star Magnum here who is second-up and will be out to go one better than he did at his last start at the track. Fresh off a six-month absence, and two trial wins, the Magnus gelding was caught wide and did well to grab third prize in a BM68 Hcp over 1000m at Eagle Farm. He drew wide that day (9 of 12) and used up a lot of fuel early to overcome the gate. Drawn the middle of the pack today, he maps to settle in the first half of the field and has Matty McGuren back in the saddle, after tasting success previously. Already a winner when second-up, he looks well placed here and is a genuine winning chance here.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 7: No. 8 REBEL RAMA ($8 Unibet)
Warwick Farm galloper REBEL RAMA has come a long way for a start in the Cup and all going well, she is capable of victory here today. Last start, the Dissident mare was having her fourth start this time in when she fought like a caged tiger to take out the Listed Tatts Gold Crown (2150m) at Eagle Farm. Leading all the way, she ran her last 600m, 7.3 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best here by more than 4 lengths. Tommy Berry was having his third ride on the mare that day, recording his second win with the four-year-old and sticks with her here. Down 2.5kgs on that win, she only has to contend with the wide draw today, and if she can settle early, she looks a solid chance here at odds today.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 8: No. 4 STOICAL ($10 bet365)
The Team Snowden-trained STOICAL is three starts into this preparation and should find this contest easier than his last few. Last start, the No Nay Never gelding was third-up when finishing unplaced in the Listed Lightning Hcp (1000m) at Eagle Farm. Despite not figuring in the finish, he still ran his last 600m, 10 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up by more than 6 lengths. He is a consistent galloper who has five wins from his 15 starts to date. Tommy Berry sticks with him here and he also has glowing stats with the four-year-old, boasting four wins from his six previous rides. At his peak today, he stands out as great value in this contest.
