BEST BET 🏆

Race 5:  No. 8  KENNYSING  ($3.80  bet365)

Locally-trained by Greg Kilner, KENNYSING comes in nicely at the weights here and looks well placed to keep his current good form going today. Last start, the Your Song gelding beat all but one home in a Class 1/Maiden over the mile at Coffs Harbour. He ran his last 600m, half a length quicker than benchmark, the best here. This looks no harder and with Matty McGuren in the saddle for the first time, he looks a genuine contender in this contest.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 7:  No. 4  I’M GUNNA CASHEW  ($6  Palmerbet)

The Matt Dunn-trained I’M GUNNA CASHEW is third-up today and looks well placed here to give this contest a real shake. Last start, we tipped the Exceed And Excel mare as our best value selection (at $10) and she was beaten less than a length, finishing third in a BM58 Hcp over 1200m at Murwillumbah. She ran that out, 8 lengths slower than benchmark, still the (equal) best here with Byron Eyes (who resumes today after 30 weeks off the scene). Today, she maps to settle in the first half of the field and has Matty McGuren returning for the ride, having previous success with the mare. She finished second when third-up last preparation and looks set to go one better than that here.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 6:  No. 9  DOLLSON  ($8  Unibet)

Down sharply in weight today, the Donna Grisedale-trained DOLLSON comes off some good recent form here and looks a solid each-way chance in the Cup today. Last start, the Zariz gelding easily accounted for a BM66 field over 1315m at Coffs Harbour. He ran that trip out, 1.5 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best in this field. He also posted the fastest final 200m sectional for the race. Grisedale’s husband Jon is back in the saddle today after having previous success with the galloper. Already placed twice at the track, could this be a fairy-tale finish for the Grisedale couple ?
