BEST BET 🏆
Race 2: No. 1 TUDOR PRINCE ($4 Ladbrokes)
Goulburn galloper TUDOR PRINCE comes into this contest with a hat-trick of wins beside his name and he looks every chance of adding another here. Last start, the All Too Hard gelding made it three-straight when he accounted for a BM72 Hcp over Canterbury’s 1900m journey. On a Heavy 9 that day, he ran his last 600m, 1.7 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field. This is a big drop in class as he returns to country racing and has Jean Van Overmeire remaining aboard who is unbeaten on him, boasting three wins from as many rides. Already a winner at the track and trip, he will take a power of beating here.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 6: No. 7 BEER PALACE ($4.40 Unibet)
The Mark Newnham-trained BEER PALACE was super impressive on debut and going by that performance, he looks a genuine winning chance here. Last start, the Vanbrugh gelding faced the starter for the first time and on a Heavy 10, destroyed his Maiden rivals over 1200m at Newcastle. Carrying 59kgs in his first race, he settled last in the small field but finished very strongly, putting more than three lengths on them over the line. Tom Sherry sticks with him today and although drawn wide, he maps to settle back in the field as he did at Newcastle. The extra distance here should suit for his second0up effort today and he looks a real threat to these.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 7: No. 2 STRAYA PRIDE ($5 Palmerbet)
The locally-trained STRAYA PRIDE was in great touch before a hiccup in the city but gets his chance to bounce back today. Last start, the Denman gelding was in line for a hat-trick when he took on city class gallopers in a BM72 Hcp at Randwick. Stepping up to the mile that day, he couldn’t match it with them, finishing unplaced in the event. He still ran his last 600m, 5.4 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best here by more than 2 lengths. He was a winner against similar company at Newcastle two starts back and already a winner here, looks set to give this a real shake today.
