BEST BET 🏆
Race 1 No. 3 CAPTAIN DAVE – ($3.60)
The opener sees the return bout of Ransom Trust and CAPTAIN DAVE, with the former needing to make up some 6.5L to upset her previous victor. Captain Dave had tracked wide over 1390 metres here in Hobart with Chelsea Baker electing to go to Ransom Trust early. Captain Dave has let down strongly to put that Class One field away while Ransom Trust must’ve had a good clean out during her second-up run. That horse has since bolted in over this track and distance while returning a decent dividend. The early market has reacted by slashing his quote which leaves us to take the value about Captain Dave. Forced to track wide again last start before chasing strongly and he can fill the stalking role in this.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 7 No. 4 HELLOVA NIGHT – ($4)
The improving track can be to the favour of HELLOVA NIGHT who improved from first-up into his second-up run under Lizzie Annells. Just went around on resumption to be okay without threatening while being afforded every chance behind Kuroset. Jumped sharply for Annells over this track and trip and the pair were happy to control the race. Sir Simon moved up to them early to put the pressure on and they went quickly. Hellova Night seemed to be doing it well and held all but the rampant Reward Achiever at bay. Fitter and can come over to either sit outside the girth of Sir Simon or follow him into the run.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 6 No. 7 IRISH SHOTGUN – ($8)
The Scott Brunton trained IRISH SHOTGUN doesn’t win too many, however he can go close third-up here. Found them too sharp over the mile first-up on the synthetic after being put into a good spot early from Lizzie Annells. Rose sharply in trip to the 2100 metres here where Maggie Collet took him to the front in a sit and sprint affair. Irish Shotgun had wobbled off on the turn and looked gone as John’s Lad shot through underneath them all to score. Irish Shotgun continued to box on doggedly to be only beaten 2L from the winner. Finds a handy weight swing on that horse and can improve on that run under the guidance of Chelsea Baker from the ideal draw.
