Race 6:  No.3  MANNERHEIM

Chris Waller saddles-up three gallopers here as we run with MANNERHEIM who has the track experience on his resume and second-up today looks poised for another big effort in this contest. Last start, the Dundeel gelding was fresh off a 15-week spell and wasn’t disgraced when finishing second in a Class 2 Hcp over 1350m at Doomben. With Ryan Maloney aboard, he box-seated to the turn and ran home well but lacking race fitness, couldn’t reel in the winner in time. Stepping up to the mile today, he will strip fitter and appreciate the extra ground as well. He won his maiden here two starts back and Maloney remains in the saddle for this assignment. A trouble-free run today should see him hard to hold out.

Race 2:  No.5  GOSPEL GIRL

The Tony Gollan-trained GOSPEL GIRL has been most impressive in her first two race starts and looks poised to rack-up a third-straight podium finish today. Last start, the Epaulette filly came off her debut maiden win when she found the 1350m just a little too long, finishing second after trying to lead from barrier to box. She led clearly on straightening but couldn’t hold out the challenge from the $1.90 race favourite (Metalart) who proved too strong in the end. James Orman remains her only rider to date and she should strip even fitter here after those two runs. Dropping back to country competition today, the three-year-old looks a major player in this contest.

Race 3:  No.2  INVAHIR 

The Toby Edmonds-trained INVAHIR has returned to the track in top-shelf form and looks set to go on with it today. Last start, the former Clint Lundholm-trained gelding changed camps and was having his first start for Edmonds when he made it back-to-back victories by taking out a Class 3 Hcp over 1300m at Beaudesert. Sent out a $2.45 favourite, the Invader gelding did it tough from a wide draw and worked hard to finally settle outside the leader. The run home saw the two leaders break clear from the rest and fought it out all the way home with the newcomer getting the better of the battle and crossing the line half a length clear in the end. He steps-up in grade today with Noel Callow steering the ship again. With a little luck in running and a clear run to the line, he can bring up the hat-trick here.
