BEST BET 🏆

Race 7 No. 5 – RED RUBI ($3.80)

We’ll stay on the Hoystead and Thorton combo in the next with RED RUBI. The mare rates highly following two wins well-spaced of each other either side of a trial since resuming. The first of which was in April as Thorton scraped paint along deep inside the furlong to come away from Maximum Output who had all the momentum up the middle. Thorton again had to hold and wait for a run between horses before Red Rubi displayed her brilliance to come away at Doomben. Comes off a recent run in Heavy conditions which do not appear to suit, and the real Red Rubi can atone here.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 3 No. 4 – OURCONI ($3.80)

We’ll go with OURCONI as Toby & Trent Edmonds settle on the race up in trip. Scratched from a harder event over 1100 metres later on the card, Ourconi looks well placed here in an open race. Noel Callow found the early front-running on the Heavy 10 over six-furlongs three back at the Gold Coast. The first three horses straightening for home were the first three past the post in those tough conditions. This is as good a pointer as any that Ourconi can handle the step up in trip. Forgive the latest effort when he was away awkwardly then always out the back before grinding home gamely.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 6 No. 1 – MISTA OMEGA ($3.60)

The Hoystead stable has entrusted the ride on MISTA OMEGA to Boriss Thorton. They’ve tasted recent success together and again have market support following Mista Omega’s determined win in maiden grade. The 4yo missed the kick and had to do it the hard way under apprentice Jayden Lloyd. Finished powerfully through the line that day over 1000m at Eagle Farm when he was switched back to the inside. Gives the impression that six-furlongs won’t be a problem with the senior rider climbing back on.
