Mackay Tips 09/08/2022

BEST BET 🏆

Race 7 No. 4 ROADHOUSE – ($4.60)

Track specialist ROADHOUSE had been racing consistently this prep prior to his last-start hiccup in Rockhampton. Ryan Wiggins had commenced his run passing the 500 metre mark before clipping the heels of the horse who shifted out in front of him. Wiggins subsequently pulled Roadhouse out of the race with trainer Olivia Cairns backing up here seven days later. Roadhouse found the fence behind the speed before putting them away into the straight the start prior. That was while racing third-up over this track, trip and class. Rises two kilos for that effort and the ease of that win suggests he can figure again.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 6 No. 11 WHOSHOTTHEMAGICIAN – ($10)

First emergency WHOSHOTTHEMAGICIAN has gained a start in the 1100 metre benchmark 55 contest. Showed a winning attitude when racing second-up over this track and trip last start. Nathan Day has hunted him hard off a middle barrier to put him in amongst the speed battle. Whoshotthemagician came back under Day once the rider conceded to the pressure of the big field. The leader’s kicked into the straight with Day going to work on his mount and finding a response. Whoshotthemagician knuckled down to task to hit the front inside the 50m before holding off all challengers. That class two rated as a benchmark 60 with some depth. He’s up in weight, however Whoshotthemagician is fitter and down in class while drawn aplomb.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 3 No. 7 CITY MISSION – ($7)

Being price sensitive and searching for some each-way value has us landing on CITY MISSION in the third race. This would seem a race in two between City Mission and Just Super, with the latter justifying his favouritism amongst the early punters. We’re happy to bet around him with City Mission in that the filly comes into this with race fitness under her belt. She also put herself into the race early on debut last start at Rockhampton. We generally like to highlight horses who finished as runner-up at their most recent start while leaving a space to the others. City Mission fought the race out with the winner for a long way before wilting inside the last 100 metres or so. Comes back slightly in trip and can give the odds-on favourite something to chase.
