Race 7: No. 4 FIOCCHI ($8 bet365)
With half the field already scratched form this event, it makes the job that much easier for the locally-trained FIOCCHI to make it win number four on his home track today. Last start, the Top Echelon gelding also suffered at the hands of the handicapper when he finished third in the Picnic Trophy Hcp over 1600m at Wean. He did well to finish on the podium that day, after carrying 66kgs over the mile trip. Today, he comes back to his home track where he boasts an impeccable record with five starts resulting in three wins and two minor placings. Brook Stower is back aboard as well and she also boasts a record of her own, with her ten previous rides resulting in two wins and three minor placings, so she has the runs on the board with the three-year-old as well. Ideally drawn in gate three, he gets the run of the race here and back to the 1400m, he is unbeaten here over that trip. There’s plenty to like about his chances here and is well worth an each-way ticket today.

Race 4: No. 5 BROOKLYN STAR ($6.50 Ladbrokes)
Dubbo-based galloper BROOKLYN STAR will be hoping its third time lucky today as she faces this track and distance challenge for the third time. Last start, the weight proved too much for her as she finished fourth here in the Picnic Trophy Bracelet over today’s trip. She had to lump 68kgs for the contest and was beaten less than two lengths on the line. Jake Pracey-Holmes returns to the saddle today after steering the Hinchinbrook mare to victory at Gilgandra four starts back. She steps up in grade today but will enjoy the huge drop in weight, carrying 13kgs less than last start. She is three starts into this preparation and should be at her peak today. Watch for a big improvement from her in this contest.

Race 5: No. 4 AMAZINGLY ($9 bet365)
Inverell galloper AMAZINGLY has a good record at this track and fresh off a 15-week spell looks a genuine each-way chance here today. Last start, the Starcraft gelding came off a 10-week let-up when he finished fifth in a strong BM70 Hcp over 1100m over the border at Toowoomba. Although unplaced in the run, he still ran his last 600m, 4.2 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best here by more than 4 lengths. Trainer Wayne Oakenfull then out him in the paddock again and comes back today on fresh legs. Already a winner when first-up and a winner at the track, he should give us a bold sight at odds today.
