Morphettville Tips 30/07/2022

BEST BET 🏆

Race 5 No. 3 ANGELIC SCENT – ($5)

Mornington trainer Matt Laurie sends his lightly raced mare ANGELIC SCENT over to Morphettville where she’s drawn for the gun run under Damien Thornton. She’s been here once before when racing towards the end of her prep as a 3yo. She was the one doing all the chasing in the Listed Morphettville Guineas which was dominated up front by Struck By and Milton’s Reward.  Finished strongly for her third placing that day before being tipped out and brought back as a mare. She’s having her third run into this latest prep which includes a last-to-first win at Geelong over 1347 metres. Stepped up to the mile at Flemington for a midweek where she was okay to the line. Fitter and stays to trip, Angelic Scent has plenty of upside about her.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 2 No. 9 KATIM’S CLUB – ($4.80)

The mannerisms of stable jockey Callan Murray suggests the team felt they had KATIM’S CLUB was very forward on debut. Murray ensured the filly a confident ride which may give us a better read than looking into the betting drift. She had good pace under encouragement from the gates then found a comfortable rhythm before being taken on and crossed. Murray then urged Katim’s Club back into her work and the filly responded by looking the winner on straightening. She did have one peeling off her back who made her pay for her mistakes of wanting to duck in under riding. Murray also seemed to sense that she was going to want to shift in. Wouldn’t be surprised if he has the stick at the ready in the left hand prior to straightening and being drawn the rail can only help too.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 4 No. 1 TEQUILA TIME – ($5.50)

The Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas team have TEQUILA TIME ready to win first-up as evidenced by his recent jump outs. The latest of such saw him go to the line with the smart 3yo Extremely Lucky as that horse had his final piece of public work in preparation for the Lightning Stakes. Tequila Time won three out of his four starts when last in work, including a win over 1000 metres in this class on the Parks track. Should hunt the speed set by Spanish Heirloom who was dominant last time out before letting down with his run into the straight.
