BEST BET 🏆

Race 9 No. 2 FOX GEM – ($5.50)

FOX GEM attracted good support throughout betting leading up to the second-up win at Balaklava. This was off the back of a promising return at Gawler and not even an inside leader dominated track could keep the punters at bay. Todd Pannel allowed his big striding mount to settle near the tail as expected off a good speed. Fox Gem then promptly rounded them up from out in the middle of the track to come away and win as the good thing of the day. That Class One race rated as a benchmark 60 at the weights and Fox Gem can make his presence felt here.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 6 No. 2 LOMAX – ($7)

Paul Carey has trained LOMAX to win two in a row since we black booked him off a Saturday run at Gawler. He had found himself out the back again and ran home fairly off the slow tempo behind En Francais. Carey since utilised the three kilo claim of Lachlan Overall when racing Lomax back to the provincials. The pair swept home from the tail to score convincingly at Gawler before repeating the dose over this track and trip last start. Teagan Voorham will no doubt afford him a similar run in transit before preparing herself for the gelding’s habit of laying in while letting down.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 8 No. 10 NIGHT HUSSLER – ($10)

Racing first-up in Adelaide, NIGHT HUSSLER jumped beautifully off the outside draw. Asked to come back, the mare never got in and was forced to race WNC out the back. They kept the brakes on up front to go along at a slow tempo turning the race into a sit/sprint affair. The rider of Night Hussler attempted to find some cover shortly before the entrance to the straight. Never gained clear until pulling out by the 300m and only running home inside the last furlong. Slow to begin since before hunting the fence at the Parks while finding her momentum halted into the straight. Finished okay amongst horses and may appreciate the bigger track
