BEST BET 🏆

Race 6 :  No. 8  ROCKBARTON RUBY  ($5.50 with Ladbrokes)

Trained at the track by David Atkins, ROCKBARTON RUBY hasn’t put a foot wrong this time in and looks well placed here for back-to-back victories today. Last start, the Denman mare was third-up when she went one better by taking out a 1300m Maiden at Scone. From the outside gate (10), she put 1.5 lengths on them over the line as she ran her last 600m, 2.9 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best here by more than 2 lengths. She also posted the fastest final 600m, 400m and 200m sectionals for the race. Sam Clipperton has the job today and with conditions to suit, the mare should prove a genuine threat in this contest.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 4 :  No. 1  MISS SCALINI  ($4.40 with Unibet)

The locally-trained MISS SCALINI is in great touch this preparation and looks well placed here to bring up her fourth-straight podium finish today. Last start, the Magnus mare finished third in a BM72 Hcp over 1550m on Randwick’s Kensington track on a Heavy 10. She ran her last 600m, 2.7 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best here. She drops in grade today and returns to provincial racing and jumping from gate one here, gets the gun-run as she maps to settle on speed. She is a three-time winner on wet tracks so conditions look ideal today. The 3kg claim is a bonus and on her home track, she should prove hard to beat.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 5 :  No. 3  GLOBAL ENCOUNTER  ($5.50 with Palmerbet)

The Kim Waugh-trained GLOBAL ENCOUTER has been in great touch this preparation and looks a genuine winning chance in this contest today. Last start, the Real Impact gelding came off a first-up Maiden win at Gunnedah when he did well to beat all but one home in a Class 1 Hcp over 1400m at Tamworth. Fitter for two runs this time in, he steps up in distance today where he maps to settle just behind the speed from barrier eight. He looks a promising type who is seeing the Newcastle track for the first time today and has the runs on the board to be considered a real threat here.
