Pakenham Tips 1/07/2022

BEST BET 🏆

Race 5 No. 4 EXTRA SMART – ($2.80)

Pretty keen on EXTRA SMART in Race 4 at Pakenham. The three-year-old was solid here on debut when 4th behind Lonsdaleite, settling handy before going for home early in the straight and sticking on well to land three lengths off the winner. Form out of that has been ok with the runner-up horse going on to win at Morphettville and she went 2.6 lengths slower than standard, which are better figures than what any horse in this race has produced. From barrier 4, she should be hard to beat.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 1 No. 8 OPPORTUNITY MISSED – ($4.20)

The opener is a Maiden over the 2200m and OPPORTUNITY MISSED can chalk up the first win of her career. The Maher/Eustace galloper stepped out on the Synthetic for the first time at Ballarat four weeks ago and showed improvement to run 3rd behind Fuentess over the 2100m. The daughter of Flying Artie came out wide on the turn that day before producing the fastest last 200m. She comes in full of fitness and gets her chance here.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 8 No. 8 LUV A DUCK – ($4.20)

LUV A DUCK might be the one they have to catch in Race 8. The three-year-old tends to save some of his best for the Pakenham Synthetic and narrowly went down here on June 21 when runner-up behind Big Darryl in a race that has provided three winners since. At his most recent start he led and went for home a long way out before being pipped on the post by Tagomago but he did have a bit on the rest. Winner out of that has since gone well in a BM 64 at Sandwon, finishing 3rd, while Luv A Duck comes in with the best last start benchmark figures of any runner. He can overcome the wide gate and should be right in the finish.

Best Value 💰 (EACH-WAY)

Race 10 No. 11 SHEZA SNIPER – ($9.50)

SHEZA SNIPER can go close in the final race of the day at Pakenham. The Phillip Stokes-trained galloper battled when overacing at Sale on July 7 but was excellent in three runs at the track and trip prior to that, finishing runner-up in all three. Two starts ago she jumped as a $2.45 favourite but was posted three-wide without cover when missing behind Vibrant Angel. Wide barrier is a concern but she will get back and the field might string out a bit with a few of these likely to head forward. Expect her to be in the finish.
