Pakenham Tips 20/6/2023
BEST BET 🏆 (WIN)
Race 6 No. 2 KAPANKU- ($2.65)
KAPANKU should be ready to fire at her third run back from a spell. The Philip Stokes-trained galloper needed the run when resuming then was posted wide without cover on the Synthetic at Pakenham on June 2 before sticking on well for 5th behind Diesel N Dust. That came in a BenchMark 70 and she drops down to 58 grade for this. The daughter of Star Turn has had three other runs on the Synthetic for a runner-up and two wins, including one when third up last time. She saves ground from barrier 1 and if the gaps come at the right time she will be hard to beat.
NEXT BEST 🥈 (WIN)
Race 4 No 14 HARTSHORN- ($3.50)
Hoping the second emergency, HARTSHORN, can sneak into the field for this race. The two-year-old has had six career starts for three minor placings and has tackled the Ballarat Synthetic at her past two starts, finishing runner-up in both off those. At her most recent start, she was posted back on a slow tempo in the field of 11 before working home to fill the exacta behind Meetmein Melbourne. The Lloyd Kennewell-trained galloper has the versatility to head forward or settle midfield and with even luck in the run she can break through.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 7 No. 9 SHUNME- ($3.30)
SHUNME can get the job done in Race 6. Another from the Philip Stokes stable, the four-year-old has had three career starts for a win over the 1100m on the Synthetic when resuming before running 3rd in a BenchMark 58 at the track and trip on May 29. On that occasion, she loomed up at the 200m and looked to be in contention before just fading late to finish a length away. The Japanese bred galloper draws wide for this but has the early speed to find a spot, while the 2kg claim for Luke Campbell gets her down to a winnable weight.
BEST VALUE 💰(EACH-WAY)
Race 3 No 8 OUTCASTER- ($19)
Nice debut performance by OUTCASTER on May 29 and the locally trained filly can go a couple of spots better at her second start. Her debut came over the 1200m on the Pakenham Synthetic and the daughter of Pariah started at big odds before settling handy and sticking on well for 3rd behind Better Link. She comes in with the best last start benchmark figure of any runner and represents value at the price. Look for her to work forward from the barrier in a race that lacks pressure and take some running down in the straight.
