BEST BET 🏆
Race 5 No. 3 KICK ON COMMAND- ($2.20)
The good money was there from the opening of the market for KICK ON COMMAND and the punters were on. He jumped beautifully for Ashley Butler and his rivals left him alone in front. Kick On Command backed up his good barrier trial win from a week earlier by coming away from his rivals to score untouched by three lengths. They ran a fast time over the 1050 metres with the query now being a step up to 1300 metres. Key is that he relaxed on debut prior to showing a sharp turn of foot into the straight. There’ll obviously be more pressure coming out of maiden grade, hopefully he can cross with stablemate Highground to sit outside his hindquarters during the run.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 3 No. 2 KALIK – ($6)
Loved the first-up run of KALIK who ran into Osamu at Eagle Farm when resuming. Osamu ran time from the front, and while he didn’t back that performance up on Saturday, we’re confident he’ll be back in the winners list again soon. Kalik jumped sharply enough to follow the speed on the fence only to find himself shuffled a pair further back prior to straightening. He took a bit of time to balance between horses and was coming with the pack deep into the furlong. Probably peaked on his run about 50 metres out and he does tend to improve into his second-up run.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 6 No. 2 FIGHT IN THE DOG – ($10)
Local trainer Rodney Hay produced FIGHT IN THE DOG to cause an upset over the fav when resuming last start. He was coming off an eight-week let-up when Tasha Chambers eased him forward shortly after the start. The pair had found a box-seat run behind Boom Boom Becker before peeling out into the straight. Fight In The Dog wanted to hang into the straight though always looked likely to get the job done. He’s now put three wins together having won his last two prior to being tipped out. Does meet the runner-up with a weight swing back to that horse’s favour, however the early leaves some value with Fight In The Dog.
