BEST BET 🏆

Race 2:  No.4  JUST SUPER

Just the six runners will contest this event with the locally-trained JUST SUPER looking the likely successor in this field. Last start, the Super One gelding made it four-straight minor money finishes when he collected third prize (again) in Open company, here over 1300m with Ryan Wiggins in the saddle. The 1300m appeared to be a little too testing for him that day, weakening over the final 100m of the race. Trainer, Nick Walsh drops him back in distance today where he is already a two-time winner over 1050m trip on this track. Wiggins sticks with him today as he gets the gun-run from gate one and maps to be box-seating on settling. Wiggins has a solid record with the four-year-old, saluting once and picking up five minor prizes from his seven rides on the gelding to date. Far too many positives here to ignore as he shapes-up as the best of the day.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 5:  No.5  OLIGARCHY

Another from the Nick Walsh stable is OLIGARCHY who is unbeaten in two starts this preparation and looks set to bring up the hat-trick today. Last start, the Russian Revolution gelding came off an impressive first-up win over 1050m at Mackay when he stepped-up to the 1300m trip (on the same track) and clobbered a BM55 field, putting 1.5 lengths on them over the line. Ash Butler had the reins that day and steers the ship again in this contest. From his four Nth Qld starts to date, the four-year-old is three from three on the Mackay track and finished unplaced at his only start here. He drew the outside gate (12) on that occasion and used up too much gas to cross and had nothing left over the final 100m. Ideally drawn in gate three today, He maps to be parked right behind the speed and fitter for two runs back, looks the testing material here.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 6:  No.3  HANGIN’ AROUND

Clinton Taylor saddles-up HANGIN’ AROUND here who has impressed from three starts to date and looks set to improve even further in this contest. Last start, the Santos gelding came off a solid second-up win at Mackay when he franked that effort by going back-to-back, here in a Restricted 55 Hcp over the 1300m trip. Justin Stanley had his first ride on the gelding that day where he led from barrier to box, holding off all challenges, carrying 58kgs to win by half a length on the line. With those three runs under his belt and Stanley sticking with him, the three-year-old can only improve and fitter here, he should prove hard to run down today.
