BEST BET 🏆

Race 5:  No. 6  WHOA LOLA  ($2.70  bet365)

The locally-trained WHOA LOLA is second-up today and boasting a solid track record, looks the pick of crop today. Last start, the Statue Of Liberty mare was fresh off a three-month break when she finished fifth in a Class 3 Plate, here over 1050m. She ran her last 600m, 1.8 lengths slower than benchmark, the second-best here behind Fight In The Dog (who is first-up today and rises in grade). Eight starts at the track and distance have resulted in three wins and two minor placings which puts the mare in front of the cue in this field. Tahlia Fenlon was aboard for two of those victories and has the reins again today. From gate five, she maps to drop-in just behind the speed and enjoy a slipstream tow to the turn. After Fenlon’s claim, she carries 1kg under the limit here which gives her the edge on the others in the market. Already a winner when second-up, and a home-track specialist, she will take beating today.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 7:  No. 5  BACK WHEN  ($5.50  bet365)

The Garnett Taylor-trained BACK WHEN loves racing here and looks in the mix here today. Last start, the four-year-old gelding came home third in a Class 2 Hcp over 1400m at the Sunshine Coast. He ran that out, 8 lengths slower than benchmark, second-best here behind Srini (who is yet to win this preparation and has gear changes to contend with today). The Caloundra-based galloper has seen the Callaghan Park track three time previously where he came away a winner on two of those occasions. He maps to settle just off the pace today as Tiff Brooker is legged aboard for the first time. The small field will suit and he should give us a run for our hard earned today.
