Race 5 No. 1 MASTER MONTARO- ($3.95) 

This looks to be a suitable assignment for MASTER MONTARO. The seven-year-old is a slight question mark at the trip but has been performing well in harder company than this at his past few starts in Melbourne. He comes off a last start 3rd over the 1100m at Flemington on ANZAC Day, beaten just over a length by Veloce Carro. The last time he raced in a BenchMark 70, he cleared out to score over the 1300m at Sandown. That came earlier this preparation. Look for him to settle on the speed with the 3kg claimer, Luke Cartwright, to ride.

Race 7 No. 6 SMART DEEL- ($4.65) 

SMART DEEL can rejoin the winners list when she steps out in Race 7. The three-year-old won two on the trot to start her campaign before producing an average performance at Caulfield. Her most recent start suggests that she might be back to her best as she made plenty of late ground to place 5th over the 1400m at Flemington, beaten just over a length by Poifect. The daughter of Deundeel comes back to the provincials and gives the impression that the small rise in trip will suit.
