Sandown Tips 10/08/2022
BEST BET 🏆
Race 1 No.1 AFT CABIN – ($2.25)
The opener sees the new season three-year-olds in action and AFT CABIN can go one spot better than a debut effort that saw him finish runner-up at Warwick Farm in NSW. That came over the 1200m and the Godolphin galloper settled back that day before coming out wide as they rounded, running on strongly to just miss out, putting a gap on the 3rd placegetter in the process. The son of Astern went 0.1 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is three lengths better than the next best last start figures of any runner. He has attracted a heap of support in the early betting and should be hard to beat.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 2 No. 5 ROYAL CROWN- ($3.50)
Been keen on ROYAL CROWN for a while now and this does look his race for the taking. The Michael Kent-trained galloper has now had five runs over the 2400m plus this time around and was luckless on the Heavy 10 here two starts ago when 4th behind Hereforagoodtime before tackling the $175,000 VOBIS Gold Stayers Final and running 3rd behind the handy Teewaters. He seemed to appreciate the slightly better surface that day and went 7.7 lengths faster than standard benchmark. Another that has attracted support in the betting, he will be ridden by Mark Zahra.
Best Value 💰 (EACH-WAY)
Race 8 No. 8 MIDAS PRINCE – ($21)
Going for one at odds to close off proceedings and that horse is MIDAS PRINCE. He comes into this at his first start for his new trainer, Amy McDonald, and was stepping up from the 1400m to the 2000m at Caulfield six weeks ago when 7th behind D’Aguilar, producing the fastest last 200m. That was a swiftly run affair and he went more than 10 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is more than seven lengths better than the next best last start figures of any runner. Third up last time he was an improver when a narrow 4th over the 2000m at Caulfield, while he has raced well here in the past. The son of American has been specked at odds and gets the 2kg claim for Lewis German.
