Race 3 No. 2 RUSSIAN STANDARD – ($2)
Not a lot has gone right for RUSSIAN STANDARD which has been felt by the punters who have followed him into the red. Cody Morgan has him from Mark Newnham now and we’ll see if he can help the well-bred three-year-old overcome his niggles. Has trialed sharply twice on a long prep back to the races. First of which saw him traveling wide outside the speed before taking over deep into the straight. Played follow the leader here during his latest trial before coming away effortlessly. Has displayed talent and looks well on the path to winning his maiden here under Matthew Palmer.

Race 4 No. 2 SCARZEL – ($6)
Brooke Stower speared SCARZEL across the field from their wide barrier when the pair went onto break the maiden. Scarzel was only racing second-up and he kept going for strong all-the-way-win in sharp time. Jake Pracey-Holmes adopted similar tactics as trainer Cameron Crockett found a benchmark 58 over this same track and trip. Scarzel set a real hot tempo for his first go outside of maiden grade before inevitably fading into the straight. Strips fitter for another go while finally drawing a pill and Stower regains the ride.

Race 8 No. 9 TRUMPED UP – ($7)
Consistent place getter TRUMPED UP has put a couple of wins on the board this prep in a sign he might be putting it all together now. Latest win came by way of this track and trip when down in class and up in weight. Wasn’t best away under Bailey Wheeler who let the horse find his feet with the pace hot up front. The pair looked dangerous as they circled the field prior to turning and it was pleasing to see Trumped Up go past them. He’s hit the front nice and early out in the middle part of the track to keep going strongly to the line. Cody Morgan responds to the slower start by removing the blinkers for this event, instead going for the softer option of winkers. Drawn for a nice run under some hot speed should give Trumped Up every chance to be in the finish again.
