BEST BET 🏆   

Race 8 No. 2 SHOWMANSHIP- ($11) 

The Wangoom Handicap is always one of the highlights of the Warrnambool carnival and I am willing to have something each-way on SHOWMANSHIP. The eight-year-old has had a stop-start career, facing the starter on just 12 occasions for eight wins. He has had just one run for the John Leek Jnr stable with that coming in December last year and he was super impressive, running on from last to finish a half a length 4th behind Ghananati over the 1200m at Caulfield. He was 3rd in this race in 2022 off a two-year break and comes into it with a nice trial under his belt when clearing out with Jimmy The Bear. He will get back from the draw but I suspect that he can get his chance out wide late in the piece.

Race 7 No. 6 BIFROST- ($11) 

BIFROST can be an improver when he steps out in Race 7. The five-year-old stepped out at Mornington off an eight-week break at the recent Saturday meeting at that venue and wasn’t suited by the slow tempo when settling back before closing off well for 6th behind Fasuto. The Emma Lee & David Browne-trained galloper will strip fitter for this and the tempo looks to be a bit more genuine here, while he draws to be right amongst it from barrier 3.

Race 10 No. 15 HELL HOUND- ($15) 

HELL HOUND is an each-way player in the final race at Warrnambool on Wednesday. The Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr-trained galloper has taken a couple of runs to get going in her previous campaigns and has just lacked the dash at the business end in her two runs this time in. But this doesn’t look to be a strong BenchMark 70 and she comes in with the third best last start benchmark figures of any runner. The daughter of Hellbent was excellent with the fitness under her belt at her last preparation with some strong performances in the city in harder grade than this. A firmer in the early betting, she saves ground from barrier 2 and is worth thought at the quote.
