BEST BET 🏆
Race 7: No. 2 SOVEREIGN EXPRESS ($3.20 Ladbrokes)
Hawkesbury galloper SOVEREIGN EXPRESS has improved at each start this time in and now no longer a maiden, looks set to go on with it today. Last start, the Bullet Train gelding broke through for his maiden win over 1400m at Newcastle with Rory Hutchings at the helm. On a wet track that day, he covered the journey in personal best time, running it 4.2 lengths slower than benchmark, the best in this line-up by 5 lengths. He also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. From gate two, he maps to settle just off the speed with cover and the step up to the mile today looks ideal for him. Hutchings remains in the saddle for today’s contest and making his track debut here, he looks the one to beat.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 3: No. 4 ROMA AVENUE ($2.70 Neds)
The Mark Newnham-trained ROMA AVENUE has picked up where he left off last preparation and after four-straight minor placings, gets his chance here to break through. Last start, the Star Witness gelding found the podium again when he finished third in a Maiden Plate over 1100m on a Heavy 10 at Canterbury. He ran his last 600m, 1.3 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field. Tom Sherry has been aboard for all four starts to date and sticks with him here. Ideally drawn in gate two today, he maps to be box-seating on settling and fitter for two starts back, he looms as a real threat in this contest.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 1: No. 3 ROCCAFORTE ($2.80 bet365)
Warwick Farm galloper ROCCAFORTE is in great form of late and down in grade today looks a genuine winning chance here. Last start, the Snitzel gelding came off a runner-up finish at Hawkesbury when he repeated the dose by beating all but home again in a BM64 Hcp over 1800m at the same track. He covered the trip, 5.7 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best here by more than 2 lengths. His only start on this track saw him finish second in a 1350m maiden six starts back. This looks a little easier and with Brenton Avdulla in the saddle today, he should take beating here at good odds in a small field.
