Burma Star is the one I want to be with early. The form string (21216-) reads like a horse that’s already learnt how to win, and that matters in these 3YO handicaps where plenty can travel like winners and then find excuses when the sprint goes on.
The other reason I’m leaning his way is the booking: J Bowman turns up and you can assume the ride will be clean and decisive. From gate 4 he should land in the first half without spending petrol, which is the sweet spot at Flemington 1200m when you don’t have a map full of confirmed leaders.
The danger I keep coming back to is Go Left (gate 5, 114.6). The “112-” profile screams upside and the weight pull is no joke in a set of developing three-year-olds. If Go Left finds the right back to follow and gets to peel at the right moment, he can absolutely blouse them late.
