Goulburn Racing Tips 10 March — can Latham own the card?
Opening
K S Latham turns up at Goulburn with the sort of local strike that changes how you read a midweek card. He’s ridden 7 winners from 16 rides here and he hits the frame in 10 of those 16 — that’s a proper sample, not a two-ride party trick. When you’ve got a rider that comfortable with the bends and the way races build here, I’ll happily lean into it when the form stacks up.
We’ve got five races on a turf track, and the meeting reads like classic country-program chess: a staying BM58 where the map matters, two races full of lightly-raced improvers, then a BM66 where the weights and gates will decide who gets the last crack. These Goulburn racing tips are written like I’m messaging a mate — who I like, who can beat them, and how I’d actually bet it.
Goulburn — the setup
Limited course form across today’s fields — most runners have one or two starts here, so I’m treating track records as context rather than gospel. Where the course numbers do matter today is in the saddle: Latham is the standout rider at this track and he gets key chances across the program.
On the trainer side, Luke Pepper has enough volume here to take seriously: 9 runners for 2 wins and 5 placings at Goulburn — better than half his runners finishing in the money. Matthew Dale’s had 8 runners here for 2 placings but no winners, so I’m not paying overs just because his name’s on the racebook.

Race-by-race
Race 1: Divalls Earthmoving (Bm58) — 13:50, 2340m
Tavijewel is the one I want in a race where plenty of these look like they’ll blink at the 600m and hope something opens. His recent run profile is what you want over a staying trip in this grade: in the last 90 days he’s gone 4 runs for 1 win and 3 placings, and that sort of consistency usually wins BM58 stayers when the others are throwing in a flat one every second start.
The gate helps too (barrier 2). Over 2340m at Goulburn, you don’t need to lead, but you do need to hold a spot and avoid being shuffled back behind slowing horses. From 2, MS R Freeman can ride him like the best horse: land in the first half, keep the rhythm, and go when the staying legs begin to wobble around the bend.
King Edward is the danger because he’s in sharper form than most of these (form 104-51) and Louise Day is a more than capable set of hands. He’s drawn 4 and carries topweight, but if they turn this into a sit-and-sprint, the horse with the best 400m can pinch it.
Staking: Win bet Tavijewel. If you’re playing a quinella, Tavijewel/King Edward looks the straight line.
Race 2: 13 Skips Country Boosted Mdn Hcp — 14:25, 1312m
Here’s the question: do you take the colt with the upside, or the older maidens who keep finding a way to place without sealing the deal?
I’m siding with Rogue Nation. The formline is short — just the one run for a third — but it’s the right type of debut to build off, and Nick Heywood’s a plus around this track (8 rides here for 2 wins and 4 placings). From barrier 2, he should get that sweet economical run where you don’t spend petrol early and you’re not relying on luck late.
Initiate is the obvious threat. The profile screams “always there” (form 2344-2) and he ran second last time. But he’s had enough chances that I’m not thrilled about taking a short price if the market wants to treat him like a moral. If he’s even money and Rogue Nation is anything like the $4-$5 zone, I know which way I’m leaning.
Keep an eye on Thegirlfromprague as a value place angle: she’s placed on her only start at Goulburn and Matthew Dale is happy to send two into this. She’s drawn 11 though, which makes the ride harder than it needs to be over this trip.
Staking: Rogue Nation win. Small saver on Initiate if you hate losing to the obvious one.
Race 3: Goulburn Australia Country Boosted Hcp (C1) — 15:05, 1312m
This is the day’s best betting race for mine because the map looks readable and the weights give you something to hang your hat on. Casino Shaw gets the call. The form tells you he turns up: 56212- reads like a horse that’s right in the zone, and he gets in with 56.5kg (124.5 in the card). That’s a comfortable weight for a C1 where a few of these are still learning how to put races away.
He’s also drawn to ride positively (gate 5). I don’t need him leading, but I do want him in the first four or five, not cluttered up behind horses that stop.
The main danger is Anladio. He’s won fresh and his two-run profile (81-) says he’s got more improvement than most. The query is barrier 9: if he drifts back and has to circle, he’ll need to be clearly better than Casino Shaw to get over the top.
Baby Daisy is the left-field runner if you’re hunting a price. She’s coming off a win (564/71) and carries just 52kg (114.6). If they go too hard early and the leaders fold, the light weight helps her keep rolling.
Staking: Casino Shaw win. If you’re playing multiples, anchor him and keep Anladio safe.

Race 4: Douglass Blinds & Security Screens Mdn Plate — 15:40, 1203m
The contrast race. Tigletta keeps running into the minors (333-33) and looks like the stable has her right at the right time. Bjorn Baker doesn’t bring too many to Goulburn, but when he does he tends to have them ready — 3 runners here for 1 win and 3 placings. That’s a small sample, so I’m not calling it a “pattern”… but it’s enough to respect.
Barrier 10 is the niggle. Over 1203m you can absolutely win from out there, but it forces Brock Ryan to make a decision: press on and risk doing work, or snag back and need a stronger finish than the inside runners.
Gamp is the danger and probably the safer “get the money back” type. He’s a four-year-old with a stack of placings (22234-) and draws 6, which gives A Adkins options. I’d expect him to camp closer than Tigletta and force her to run him down.
From the debutants, Master Yoda has J Ford, and Ford’s record at Goulburn is better than most realise: 4 rides here for 3 placings. Again, small sample, but it’s a rider who tends to get horses into the race.
Staking: Each-way Tigletta if the price is fair (wide gate keeps it honest). If she’s too short, I’d rather play Gamp as a straight place.
Race 5: Goulburn Hay Supplies (Bm66) — 16:20, 1422m
The market usually falls in love with the last-start winners in these and forgets a basic truth: a BM66 with a few natural on-pacers becomes a positioning contest, and the best rider often makes the cleanest decisions under pressure.
Sir Franklin is the headline act and the one I’m with. He comes off a prep where he won four on the bounce (2111-4), and while he got beaten last time, I’m not binning a horse for one miss after that sort of run. He carries the big weight (63kg) and draws 8, but he gets the rider you want: Latham wins nearly half his rides here and runs top three almost two-thirds of the time. If anyone can nurse a topweight into the right lane at the right time at Goulburn, it’s him.
Ghost Walker is the danger. He’s drawn 11 which is ugly, but his recent run was a second (215-2), and Danielle Seib has a decent-enough body of work here (7 runners for 1 win). If Ghost Walker finds cover midfield and gets a cart into the race, he’s the one that can make Sir Franklin feel the weight late.
For value players, Soho Sushi is the sneaky place hope. He’s had 3 runs in the last 90 days for a placing, and Pat Murphy has a strong historical record at this track (4 runners for 2 wins). If the favourites do a bit of work early, he’s the type who can be the last one still running on.
Staking: Sir Franklin win. Small exacta Sir Franklin over Ghost Walker. If the tote gives you a silly place price on Soho Sushi, that’s the saver.
Where the money goes
My strongest play is Casino Shaw in the 15:05. The profile fits a C1 perfectly: he brings reliable form (56212-), he carries a sensible weight, and he’s drawn to settle where the race gets decided. That’s the one I want to build around if you’re having a multi.
The NAP is Sir Franklin late. I’m backing the rider as much as the horse: Latham’s record at Goulburn is the standout on the card, and he’s exactly the sort of jockey who can win a BM66 with a topweight by riding the right race rather than the brave one.
Value-wise, I don’t mind Tigletta each-way in the maiden if the market overreacts to barrier 10. The Baker stable’s small Goulburn sample has been productive (3 runners, 3 placings), and her form says she’ll be in the finish again.
Course angle to keep on the sticky note: when Latham rides a horse with genuine class edge (like Sir Franklin here), you don’t need everything to go perfectly — you just need him within striking range turning for home. Watch how he positions them from awkward alleys today; it’ll matter for the next Goulburn meeting too.
