Happy Valley is one of two racecourses staging feature horse racing in Hong Kong with the other being Sha Tin racecourse.

See below for the horses to follow from the upcoming race meetings at Happy Valley.

The Tony Cruz-trained VIVA POPCORN (best odds $2.60 with PlayUp) has finished in the minor money at his past two and gets his chance here to go one better tonight. Last start, the English-bred galloper beat all but one home in a Class 4, here over the mile trip. He ran his last 600m, 6.5 lengths quicker than benchmark as he came from near last before the turn. He also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. Joao Moreira retains the ride here and from a handy gate (5) he is expected to settle a little closer tonight, given him an even better opportunity to take this contest out.

Tonight’s feature-race here sees half a dozen winning chances facing the starter with Francis Lui-trained SUNNY STAR (best odds $5 with Sportsbet) standing out as a track specialist and worthy winner at odds. Last start, the American-bred gelding took on Group 3 company for the first time where he finished second-best on the January Cup, here over 1800m. He set a new personal best that night, running the trip, 10.1 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best here by more than 3 lengths. He also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. He drops sharply in grade here and drawn the fence tonight, he has Alex Badel sticking with him and will take beating here.

The John Size-trained TORONADO PHANTOM (best odds $4.60 with PlayUp) found his mojo last start and looks every chance of going back-to-back tonight. Last start, the Irish-bred gelding was third-up and was having just his second start here when he beat home a Class 4 field over 1200m. Drawn wide (8 of 12) that night, he drifted back to near last (travelling three-wide to the turn). He took the turn via the cape and still finished best to grab victory on the line. He takes on Class 4 company for the first time tonight but does drop 6.5kgs accordingly. Drawn wide (9) again tonight, Moreira is expected to drop back and look for sit with cover and with a trouble-free run, he looks a big chance of going back-to-back tonight.
