RUAKAKA

BEST BET 🏆

Race 6:  No. 3  CHEVRON  ($2.15  Ladbrokes)

The Chris Gibbs-trained CHEVRON has come back in top form and looks set to continue that trend here. Last start, the El Roca gelding was third-up when he made it back-to-back victories with a crushing win in a BM74, here over 2100m. From a wide gate (11 of 14), he destroyed his opposition that day, crossing the line more than eight lengths ahead of them. Tegan Newman celebrated her third victory on the galloper that day and remains in charge here. If he can overcome the wide gate here, he will still prove hard to beat in the run home.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 5:  No. 4  SMART ROCKS  ($3.40  Unibet)

Team Rogerson saddle-up SMART ROCKS here who is in outstanding form and looks right in this contest. Last start, the Swiss Ace gelding did it the hard way when he took out a Three-Year-Old event, here over 1400m. Drawing the outside gate (11), he used up a lot of fuel to cross and lead and kept going in the run home, he won with authority, crossing the line more than a length ahead of the rest. He steps up to the mile here and unbeaten in two starts on the track, he will take beating again.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 1:  No. 4  EL NOIR  ($4.60  Palmerbet)

The Stephen Marsh-trained EL NOIR found his mojo here last start and looks set to go on with it in this contest. Coming off three unplaced runs this preparation, he found form last start when he took out a BM74 over 1200m on this track. With Michael McNab aboard that day, the El Roca mare came from mid-field early to swamp them in the run home to claim a half-length victory. McNab sticks with her here and from gate five, maps to settle mid-field again. Meeting similar company again, she looks a solid chance of repeating that last-start effort here.

TRENTHAM

BEST BET 🏆

Race 6:  No. 2  TAVIS COURT  ($2.40  Unibet)

The Anna Clement-trained TAVIS COURT is a wet-track specialist and with heavy conditions forecast for this meeting, he will be right at home in this contest. Last start, the Tavistock gelding beat all but home to the line, here over 1400m. That was the fifth time he finished in the top-two from six second-up runs. Lisa Allpress was aboard that day and remains in the saddle here. Dawn the fence, he gets the gun-run and with all seven career wins coming on wet tracks, he looks the pick of the crop here.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 5:  No. 1  ROCKET SCIENCE  ($3.10  Neds)

Promising galloper ROCKET SCIENCE is yet to miss a podium finish after eight career starts and with conditions to suit here, looks every chance on keeping that record intact. Last start, the Keano gelding beat all but one home in a BM74 over 1200m at Tauranga. Temyia Taiaroa gets the ride here and has a 2kg which brings him back to 57kgs for this contest. Both career wins to date came on wet tracks and he gets the gun-run from gate one. There’s plenty to like about his chances here and he should be there at the finish.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 9:  No. 2  CHASE  ($3  Ladbrokes)

The Stephen Nickalls-trained CHASE is a track specialist who looks ideally placed here to bring up the hat-trick. Last start, the Zed gelding continued his domination on this track when he took out the King Of Comedy @ Novara Pk Hcp, here over 1400m. After putting six lengths on a BM74 field, here the start prior, he put three lengths on them last start, on a heavy track as well. Kate Hercock was aboard for both runs and sticks with him here. He goes up in weight for this contest but is well drawn and already a two-time winner at the track and distance, and four-time winner on wet tracks, he will take beating here again.
