ARAWA PARK

Debbie Sweeney saddles-up CALPURNIA here (best odds currently $4 with bet365) who is a track specialist and looks poised to add another win to her resume. Last start, the Swiss Ace mare bounced back from a run of outs when she grabbed her second win this time in, beating home a BM74 field, here over the mile trip. With apprentice Elen Nicholas aboard, she had the run of the race and capitalised on it, crossing the line a length ahead of the 10-strong field. Nicholas retains the ride here and already boasting four wins from five starts at the track and distance, she looks the testing material again.

The Nic Bishara-trained RISING STORM (best odds currently $13 with Palmerbet) boasts six top-two finishes from her past seven starts and looks ideally placed in the Cup. Last start, the Jakkalberry mare came from mid-field early to grab another win in a BM74 over 2100m at Pukekohe Park. Carrying 55.5kgs, she fought out the finish with Stopalltheclocks as they put three lengths on the rest of the field that day. Drawn nicely in gate five, she maps to settle near mid-field again and dropping 2.5kgs here, she looks a real threat to this field, and great value at double-figures.

Resuming today, the Carl Henderson-trained JODELIN GAL (best odds currently $5.50 with Ladbrokes) ticks enough boxes here to give this field something to think about. Last start, the Swiss Ace mare ended her last campaign finishing fifth in the Group 2 Westbury Classic over 1400m at Ellerslie. She then hit the paddock for 16 weeks and has since trialled at Matamata. Already a first-up winner, she has also saluted on this track and two-time winning jockey Lynsey Satherley returns here to take the reins. All looks set for a big effort here.

HAWERA

The Paul Richards-trained SEAJETZ (best odds currently $3 with Palmerbet) is second-up here and looks well placed to give this field a real fright. Last start, the Iffraaj gelding was fresh off a lengthy 19-week break when he came within a length of victory, finishing just behind the placegetters in a BM74 over 1400m at Pukekohe Park. Lisa Allpress is in the saddle for her first ride on the four-year-old who is seeing the Hawera track for the first time here and unbeaten in two second-up appearances looks a strong chance of keeping that record intact in this contest.

In great touch this time in, the Janelle Millar-trained PURE INCANTO (best odds currently $6.50 with Palmerbet) ticks enough boxes here to be considered a genuine winning chance in this event. Last start, the Per Incanto mare was second-up when she proved too strong for a BM65 field, here over 1200m. With 57kgs to carry, she put almost a length on them on a soft track that day. Drawn the fence here, she gets the gun-run as she maps to settle on the leader’s heels. She steps up in grade here but drops 2.5kgs for the challenge Chris Dell remaining aboard, she can give this real shake at odds.

The Ashley Meadows-trained MEGLIO DI FALCREST (best odds currently $4.40 with Palmerbet) is shooting for a hat-trick here and looks ideally placed to pull it off. Last start, the Better Than Ready mare came off a big win at Woodville and repeated the effort at Wanganui when she more than a length on them in a BM74 over 1200m. She drew gate 11 (of 12) that day and still found the front to lead them to the turn. Mereana Hudson kept her going that day and has the ride again here. Stepping up to Open Class here, she drops 3kgs and gets the gun-run, jumping from the fence. She maps to lead them again and fitter for those two runs back, she will prove hard to run down.
