Caulfield Tips 04/05/2024
BEST BET 🏆
Race 6 No. 2 GRINZINGER BELLE- ($4.20)
This looks to be a suitable assignment for GRINZINGER BELLE. The Danny O’Brien-trained filly has been matching it against some of the best this autumn and was 7th behind Autumn Angel two starts ago at Flemington when posted wide before heading to Moonee Valley and just missing behind Vibrant Sun when attempting to lead all the way. She put a four-length gap on the 3rd horse. Both of those were over the 1600m. The daughter of Shamexpress drops back to the 1400m and was a dominant winner over the trip three starts ago. A firmer in the early betting, she might push across from the barrier and we can expect to see her fighting out the finish.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 9 No. 6 ABERFELDIE BOY- ($5)
ABERFELDIE BOY should be ready to fire at his third run back from a spell. The four-year-old closed off well at Listed level last time in the Easter Cup (2000m) at Caulfield, placing 4th and less than one length from the winner, going a healthy 10.3 lengths faster than standard benchmark. He improved seven lengths on figures the last time he was third up to fill the minor placings in the Group 1 South Australian Derby (2500m) behind Dunkel. The Robbie Griffiths & Matt de Kock-trained galloper gets in with the 54kg and draws to save ground from barrier 2.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 5 No. 2 MIDWEST- ($10)
Best Value comes up in Race 5 and MIDWEST is worth thought at his first run back from a spell. The speedster from the Anthony & Sam Freedman camp has been sparingly raced over the past year but his past few efforts when first up have been excellent. Last spring, the son of Zoustar resumed over the 1100m at Caulfield and defeated all but Asfoora when attempting to lead all the way. Later on, the five-year-old stepped out off a nine-week break and was runner-up at Cranbourne’s Saturday meeting in November over the 1000m. He will race on the speed for this and is a six-time winner at the trip, while the 3kg claim for Tatum Bull gets him down to a winnable weight.
