Race 5 No. 1 ZARDOZI ($2.50)

ZARDOZI can go on with the job after a last start effort that saw her score in the Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on Turnbull Stakes day. The James Cummings-trained galloper had excuses in her runs prior to that but relished the bigger space and the step up in trip to score easily from Aprilia. The daughter of Kingman produced the fastest last 400m and 200m and looks to have further scope to improve out to the 2000m. James McDonald rides.

Race 1 No. 2 HEMAN- ($3.80)

Keen on HEMAN in the Carbine Club Stakes. The Peter & Paul Snowden-trained galloper comes down from Sydney and produced a bit of an eye-catcher at his most recent start when running on from the tail to finish 4th behind Makarena in the $500,000 Tapp-Craig (1400m). He did a couple of things wrong in that race but produced the fastest last 200m and should have scope out to the 1600m. Sydney gallopers have done well in the past when heading down for this race and the son of I Am Invincible should tuck in nicely from barrier 2.

Race 9 No. 5 TAMERLANE- ($4.20)

TAMERLANE can end the day a winner. The Godolphin galloper was excellent at his most recent start when stepping out at the track and trip on October 7, leading all the way to defeat Just Folk by nearly two lengths, going a healthy 11 lengths faster than standard benchmark. He has been excellent in 2023, winning three of six. This is harder but he should be at his peak third up and at the same stage of the autumn, the son of Golden Horn improved eight lengths on benchmark figures to score over the 1400m at Randwick. James McDonald will look to hold the lead from barrier 1 and the pair should take some running down.
