Warwick Racing Tips 10 March — can Hoysted own the card?
The angle at Warwick today isn’t a mystery horse or a quirky distance — it’s a stable. Matthew Hoysted brings a little cluster of runners that look placed to win, not just to have a day out. When a yard turns up like that at a country meeting, you don’t overthink it: you work out which of theirs is the proper one, which is the decoy, and which race is the bet you actually want to lean into.
We’ve got five races on turf, mostly around that 1400–1600m sweet spot where barriers and intent matter. There isn’t a stack of established Warwick “specialists” in the fields — plenty of horses are here for their first or second look — so I’m weighting today’s Warwick racing tips toward form trajectory, where they land in running, and the few meaningful course patterns we do have (not the one-start “percentages”).
Warwick — the setup
Limited course form across today’s fields — most runners have only one previous start here, so treat any “won here before” as a note rather than a badge.
What does matter from the Warwick sample is the human side. Damien Boche has eight rides at the track historically and makes it count — he wins one in four here and hits the frame nearly two-thirds of the time. MS G Cartwright and B Lerena also show up with enough rides (5+ and 7 respectively) to take their place rates seriously.
Matthew Hoysted’s Warwick record is only two runners deep, so I’m not calling him a track bully on that alone — but one win and two placings from two goes tells you he doesn’t waste nominations here. That’s all I need to treat his team with respect.
Going: not published in the provided racecard feed at time of writing (keep an eye on late updates on-track).

Race-by-race
Race 1: Sjg Plumbing & Drainage Hcp — 13:34, 1640m
Chevallum looks like the horse who’s already doing the job. The formline is clean (2–1), the draw (3) gives Jag Guthmann-Chester options, and the stable (Hoysted) arrives with intent on this card. Chevallum has only had one look at Warwick, but did run second here — that’s enough to tick the “handles the place” box without pretending it’s a trend.
More than anything, I like that Chevallum’s last 90-day block is a proper winning profile: two runs for a win and a placing, averaging 1.5 in the finish. That’s not padding; that’s a horse in the zone.
Danger: Bent Bridge comes in off a last-start win and gets a workable gate (7). If the tempo gets messy midrace and the race turns into a grind from the 600m, a tough last-start winner can simply outstay them.
Play: Win bet Chevallum. Small saver quinella with Bent Bridge if you want protection against the in-form winner.
Race 2: Ian Free Memorial Mdn Plate — 14:12, 1476m
This is the type of maiden where you don’t need to get fancy — you just need to find the runner who keeps knocking and is drawn to get the right run. That points me to Haberfield (barrier 4). The form reads like a horse that’s been in the mix without luck or punch at the end (42942-), and this trip at Warwick gives it another chance to land in the first four turning for home and keep building into the race.
The stable-jockey set-ups here are mostly modest, and the course stats don’t separate them either — Cross Of Scarlet has one Warwick run for an eighth; that’s a note, not a reason. So I’m leaning on the profile: Haberfield has been more competitive more often than most of these.
Danger: Moment is the lightly-raced three-year-old in the field and those can jump quickly from “nothing” to “winner” in the right maiden. The gate (5) is friendly, and you don’t need much improvement to win a race like this.
Play: Each-way Haberfield if the price is fair. If the market makes it short, this becomes a watch race and you wait for a clearer edge later on the card.
Race 3: Sub Zero Air Conditioning Mdn Plate — 14:47, 1476m
The stable move is the story here: MS S Croxford has Prince Of Synergy drawn 1 with Damien Boche going on, and that reads like “let’s control what we can.” At Warwick, Boche is one of the few riders on the day with a real volume sample — eight rides, winning a quarter of them, and placing in five. In a maiden with plenty of patchy form, that matters.
Prince Of Synergy’s recent form is the other hook: three runs in the last 90 days for three placings, averaging 1.67. No win, sure — but it keeps turning up and doing enough to be in the finish. From gate 1, Boche can either hold a spot behind speed or lead if nothing wants it.
Danger: Awarded Difference is a three-year-old with only one run under the belt (a fourth), and Hoysted doesn’t need much to turn those into winners at this level. If it improves even a length or two second-up, it’s right in it.
Play: Win bet Prince Of Synergy. If you’re playing exotics, keep Awarded Difference onside for improvement rather than trusting the older, exposed types.
Race 4: Picklebet Pickle Perks Hcp (C2) — 15:27, 1476m
The shape of this race screams “position and timing.” A few of these settle midfield or worse and want to wind up; if they stack up on the bend, the winner comes from the one that can launch without being dragged five wide.
I want Cardiologist. Yes, it’s topweight, but it’s also the horse with the cleanest consistency line in the field (3-5823) and it has already placed on its only Warwick visit (third). That’s not a “track record,” it’s just reassurance that the place doesn’t spook it. Harrison Shaw rides, and while his Warwick numbers are more “workmanlike” than dominant (11 rides, one win), he does know the circuit.
Cardiologist’s last 90 days reads like a horse that keeps finding the finish without breaking through: four runs, two placings. That’s a profile I’m happy to back in a Class 2 handicap where others are either out of form or badly weighted.
Danger: Rock The Sunrise is the Hoysted runner who can blow the race up if it lands closer than expected from gate 2. Even when it doesn’t win, it keeps putting itself in the right part of the race (5243-4).
Play: Win bet Cardiologist. If the market drifts it, I’d increase stake; if it firms hard, I’d still play but keep Rock The Sunrise as the exacta/quinella saver.

Race 5: Picklebet Get Your Pickle On (Bm62) — 16:04, 875m
The market problem (even before we see prices) is that people love last-start winners over short, sharp trips — and Warwick 875m can make that feel obvious. But I’m not automatically chasing the “flashy” here; I’m looking for the horse most likely to get the right run from the right gate and still be strong late.
Goodes appeals for exactly that reason. It draws 4, gets B Lerena (seven Warwick rides, frame in four — a solid hit-rate sample), and the form says it belongs in this grade: 1814-2. Second up off a break and sticking around BM62 looks like a placement designed to win, not to build fitness.
There’s also a horse with a Warwick note worth respecting: Raiderlicious has won on its only start here. One run isn’t a trend, but it does tell you it can handle the place and the sprint set-up. The knock is the draw (6) in a big field over 875m — you can get posted if you’re not sharp early.
Danger: Gee Eye Why comes in off four straight wins (4111-). The draw is ugly (15), but if it has genuine early toe it can still cross, and confidence horses keep rolling until they don’t.
Play: Goodes each-way as the practical bet (gate + rider + profile). Small saver win bet Raiderlicious if you want cover for the “won here before” angle.
Where the money goes
NAP: Chevallum (Race 1, 13:34). Two runs in the last 90 days for a win and a placing tells you it’s turning up ready, and the draw lets Jag Guthmann-Chester keep it out of trouble.
Value: Goodes (Race 5, 16:04) each-way. In a messy 875m with a wide spread of chances, I’d rather take the horse with barrier 4 and a rider who regularly puts them in the finish at this track.
Banker for multis: Prince Of Synergy (Race 3, 14:47) to place. Three straight placings in the recent block is the “keeps showing up” profile you want for multis, and gate 1 suits the map.
Each-way anchor: Cardiologist (Race 4, 15:27). Topweight, yes — but it keeps running into the money, and it’s already handled Warwick once with a placing.
Course angle to remember: when Damien Boche turns up at Warwick, he rides it properly — eight rides, two wins, five placings. If he starts picking up more competitive mounts here, that’s the Warwick shortcut you’ll want next meeting.
