Overview
Vintage Vibes is the best bet of the day. It has won two of its three starts in the last 90 days and placed in the other, the last two runs were both wins, and it meets a Bm70 field at Eagle Farm in Race 1 with Chelsea Baker riding for Jay Bellamy.
Three selections from three meetings: Eagle Farm, Rosehill and Flemington. Bookmakers had prices up for the early races at Eagle Farm and Rosehill, so the best bet and the value bet come with a price. The quaddie angle is Tempted in the Champions Sprint, and that market wasn’t open when this was written.
The best bet
Vintage Vibes, Eagle Farm Race 1, 11:32, 2.05 with Neds.
The form line reads 140311, and the last two of those runs were wins. Two wins and a placing from three starts in the last 90 days have earned $61,700, and Chelsea Baker rides at 57.5kg.
The price is the catch. At 2.00 there is no value in it as a single, so it works best as the first leg of a multi. Sort Cha Mess is the danger at 4.40 with Unibet: it also has two wins from three runs in the last 90 days and won last start, so this is closer than the betting suggests.
The value bet
Mainstay, Rosehill Race 1, 12:25, 4.40 with Bet Right.
Mainstay has had three starts and won all three, every one of them in the last 90 days. Nobody has beaten it yet, and it still sits behind Yesspecially in the market. A Bullock rides for P Messara and L Gavranich from barrier 7.
Yesspecially is the one to beat at 3.00 with Unibet, with two wins from two starts and K McEvoy riding for Paul Snowden. Defiance, our Rosehill value pick at 5.50 with Unibet, is the third horse in the race on a winning streak, but it carries top weight of 60kg. Mainstay gets the nod here because it is the horse the Rosehill preview backs to win the race.
The quaddie angle
Tempted, Flemington Race 6, 3:50.
Tempted has won her last six starts, and the last two of them were the Premiere Stakes at Randwick on 3 October and the Everest on 17 October. Three wins from three runs in the last 90 days have earned $8,160,000, and she carries the highest rating in the Champions Sprint at 56.5kg. C Schofield and C Maher have teamed up 29 times since the start of 2025 for eight wins and 17 placings.
The Champions Sprint is the first leg of the Flemington quaddie (Races 6 to 9), and Tempted goes in it on her own. That frees up the budget for the Champions Mile and the Champions Stakes, where the Flemington preview takes more than one runner.
This is her first start at Flemington, the one question she hasn’t answered. Joliestar is the danger: the second highest rating in the race, two placings from two runs in the last 90 days worth $2,190,000, and J B McDonald riding for C J Waller.
How these were picked
All three selections come from today’s full previews for Flemington, Rosehill, Eagle Farm, Morphettville, Ascot, Geelong, Gold Coast, Hawkesbury, Pioneer Park and Goulburn. Price was the tiebreaker: a selection with a live price beat one of similar strength without.
That cost some strong horses a place. Cosmic Crusader, the Flemington NAP in the Champions Stakes, Lazzura at Rosehill and Just Precious at Eagle Farm all have the form for a best bet, but none of their races had a market up when this was written. The NAPs at Morphettville, Ascot, Geelong, Gold Coast, Hawkesbury, Pioneer Park and Goulburn were in the same spot, as no bookmaker was pricing any race at Geelong, Gold Coast, Ascot, Pioneer Park or Goulburn. Tempted made it as the quaddie angle anyway because no race inside any of today’s quaddies had a price, and she is the one horse the Flemington preview leaves on her own in its quaddie.
