The All Aged Stakes (1600m) is the final Group 1 race of the Sydney autumn and has been won by some champion gallopers over the years. See who made our list of top 5 All Aged Stakes winners since 2000.

In modern times, the weight-for-age race has seen some brilliant sprinters and milers clash over the 1400m distance.

Top 5 All Aged Stakes winners.

1. SUNLINE (2000 & 2002)

The grand mare, Sunline, heads our top 5 All Aged Stakes winners and had an extraordinary record, winning 32 of 48 career starts. The New Zealand gun would often settle in the lead before upping the ante at the business end, breaking those that would assume the chasing role. She won the Cox Plate (2040m), Doncaster (1600m), Coolmore Classic (1500m), Waikato Sprint (1400m) and the All Aged on two occasions each, while she took out a stirring edition of the Hong Kong Mile (1600m) in the year 2000.

2. ATLANTIC JEWEL (2012)

What a gun Atlantic Jewel was. Sadly, racing fans only saw her step out on track on just 11 occasions due to persistent injury battles. She won 10 of her 11 starts, missing out to It’s A Dundeel in one of the better Underwood Stakes (1800m) you will see. She won four times at Group 1 level and always seemed destined for bigger and better things.

3. PRIVATE STEER (2004)

Another mare to make this list is Private Steer, who excited racing fans with her get back and run on style of racing. The John O’Shea-trained galloper announced herself with a big win in the Stradbroke (1400m) in 2003 before performing very well in a series of top races as a four-year-old, winning the Doncaster in stunning fashion ahead of Grand Armee in 2004 before her success in this race from Our Egyptian Raine and Defier.

4. ALL TOO HARD (2013)

A half brother to the unbeaten Black Caviar, All Too Hard had his work cut out in getting anywhere near the performances of that horse. However, the Team Hawkes-trained galloper was a gun in his own right. He showed promise as a two-year-old before producing a stunning upset win ahead of Pierro in what was a vintage edition of the Caulfield Guineas (1600m) in 2012. He then finished a narrow runner-up in the Cox Plate (2040m). In the autumn of 2013, he was unstoppable winning three Group 1 races from as many starts before early retirement beckoned.

5. DISSIDENT (2015)

Apologies to fans of Hay List, who misses the cut for the top five behind the Horse Of The Year from 2015, Dissident. The former Peter Moody galloper sealed those honours by taking out this race in 2015 with Jimmy Cassidy on board. Like many of his feature wins he paid handsomely at the $10 quote. After just missing out in a series of the big three-year-old spring races, Dissident was able to win five times at the highest level in 2014/15. He claimed the Randwick Guineas (1600m) before graduating to open class, claiming the Memsie Stakes (1400m), Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) and the Orr Stakes (1400m) before closing out his career with a win in the All Aged.
