1. WEEKEND HUSSLER (2007)
Weekend Hussler was the glamour three-year-old of the 2007/08 season, graduating from a Cranbourne Maiden win to win twice at Sandown before claiming the Caulfield Guineas (1600m) and the Coolmore Stud Stakes ahead of Bel Mer and the world class performer, Scenic Blast. The winning machine equalled Kingston Town’s record for most Group 1 wins in a single season with victories in the Oakleigh Plate (1100m), Newmarket Handicap (1200m), Randwick Guineas (1600m) and George Ryder Stakes (1500m) and returned at four to take out the Memsie Stakes (1400m) Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) and the Underwood Stakes (1800m) before injury cut him down.
2. ALINGHI (2004)
The Lee Freedman-trained filly won the Coolmore Stud Stakes when it was known as the Ascot Vale Stakes (1200m) and was raced earlier in the Melbourne spring. The four-time Group 1 winner had earlier announced herself as a two-year-old, taking out the Blue Diamond (1200m) and a highlight of her performances was her ability to chase down opposition from back in the field. One of her best wins came in the 2005 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) when she reigned in Fastnet Rock late in the piece.
3. SEPOY (2011)
Sepoy raced 13 times and enjoyed an excellent strike rate with 10 wins out of those 13. He claimed the Blue Diamond/Golden Slipper double at two before returning in the spring to beat the older horses in the Manikato Stakes (1200m). The Peter Snowden-trained galloper then won the Coolmore Stud Stakes ahead of Foxwedge before retiring in the autumn of 2012, heading to stud.
4. SUNLIGHT (2018)
The recently retired Sunlight was a brilliant filly from the Tony McEvoy stable and was too good for the boys in 2018, defeating the likes of Zousain. The precocious type claimed the Magic Millions (1200m) at the Gold Coast at the start of 2018 and ran 3rd in the Golden Slipper (1200m) that year. As an autumn three-year-old she took out the Newmarket Handicap (1200m) and William Reid Stakes (1200m) before narrowly missing out in the Golden Eagle (1500m) at four.
5. MERCHANT NAVY (2017)
One of the most exciting wins you will see came from Merchant Navy in the 2017 edition of the Coolmore Stud Stakes. The son of Fastnet Rock was sent out a $19 chance after failing to fire in the Golden Rose (1400m) in Sydney but scooted inside the field to get up right on the line from Invincible Star. He was the able to win at Royal Ascot as a three-year-old in 2018, defeating some of the worlds best in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee (1200m), bowing out a winner.
