Oakleigh Plate Barrier Draw – When, Where And How Does It Work?

The barrier draw and final field for the Oakleigh Plate in 2025 will be unveiled on Wednesday, February 19 at 9:30am.

There should be a wide range of weights once the barrier draw is finalised and due to the race being a handicap, it makes it an exciting event with plenty of value to be found as the race is generally devoid of short-priced favourites.

A computer will randomly select the barriers for each sprinter and the field will be uploaded shortly after for punters to assess the final field.

Is There A Barrier Draw Bias in the Oakleigh Plate?

When trying to assess whether there has been any distinguishable barrier draw bias in the Oakleigh Plate, we can start by assessing the most successful barriers. Middle draws have had a lot of success in the race.

Interestingly, barriers one through to four do not feature here which may suggest that having an inside barrier in the large field could be detrimental to the chances of success. This could be because these horses are either being buried away near the fence or copping pressure from horses out wide if they are trying to hold a forward position in the race.
