Race 7 No. 4 THE MAP ($2.65)

Punters continue to flock towards top local hope THE MAP for Monday’s Adelaide Cup at Morphettville Racecourse. She was bet as much as $4.80 when markets first opened before being knocked down into $4. The steady stream of money continued since the booking of Jamie Kah as her jockey, and the money has further come since the recent barrier draw. How do we beat the market on this one? We don’t; we join them. 

We were keen on Hasta La War from an each-way perspective as our #SABlackbookers Cup selection while knowing full well that The Map would start a short-priced favourite come race-day. Unfortunately we’ve lost the #SABlackbookers horse due to a tendon strain, leaving us taking the shorts about the fav.

The Map proved her class at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day with Kah piloting her to an easy four-length win over 2800m. Local trainers Dan Clarken & Oopy MacGillivray have been very deliberate in giving The Map only the two lead-up runs going into the Grand Final on Monday.

The Map was simply too brilliant for her rivals after circling from the back first-up over 2006m in the JRA Plate. Lachlan Neindorf again gave her plenty to do when settling well back off a slow tempo in the Lord Reims last start. He brought The Map as the widest runner on turning with the mare coming on strongly for second. The winner found a cheap run handy to the speed and may do so again in the Cup. Both were strong through the line and we won’t be surprised to see Kah land a few pairs closer tomorrow.

Race 7 No. 15 ROARING ENGINE ($29)

The lack of speed on paper might prove helpful to those such as ROARING ENGINE who have drawn out in this year’s Adelaide Cup. Cup Winners over the last decade have all drawn from inside to middle, with only one horse in that time drawn out. Roaring Engine can overcome that barrier hoodoo with a positive ride from Kayla Crowther. Blake Shinn found the box-seat for Roaring Engine over 2500m at Moonee Valley two starts ago. He found his momentum halted momentarily with the leader shifting out prior to straightening. Shinn also felt that he had to deal with Monday’s rival Rapinoe who appeared to be travelling the better back to his inside. The ensuing bumping duel probably wasn’t to his favour with Rapinoe using her momentum to gain the upper hand. Roaring Engine came at her again to just miss on the line before putting in another gutsy display to win at Sandown twelve days later.
